Cancelling Interviews...

How much time should you give a program when canceling an interview? Obviously more is better but I am still waiting for a few of my top choices and have others that I would like to cancel once I receive these. Is one week to short?

I asked a PD this recently and he said that, while there's no hard rule, at least 2 weeks is considered courteous. The earlier the better.

At the ACEP student symposium, they told us that 10 days is the ideal, but a week is still okay. I think if it's less than that you should have a really good reason...

if u get an interview invite, and then decide not to schedule an interview, do u guys think its needed to notify the program? I have about 8 or so programs that I havent replied back to, just wondering if I should email em.

Definitely e-mail them and let them know. This way they can send an interview invite to someone else.

I definitely think it's important to write a program back if they invite you to an interview that you aren't going to schedule. That way they can offer it to someone else who wants to be there. Plus, WE get annoyed when WE haven't heard from programs. Shouldn't we do programs the courtesy of replying?

Of course!!! I just email the residency coordinator and let him/her know I won't be able to make it. Nothing wrong with rejecting and not scheduling. I've done that with about 10 programs.

I agree with Domer. I have written e-mails thanking the programs for their invitation and declining so another student might have an opportunity to interview and match into EM.

i have a few more to send...but am waiting for ONE more ( maybe 2) important interview.
