Interesting illustration

5 candidates fighting for the one hand (job) to select them...emblematic/ problematic of the status quo.

The colored male got the job in this case. Now I am feeling great about my chances! 😂

This is clearly aimed at pathologists. My lab can't seem to find any histotechs, AABB specialists, or lab techs at above average rates. My facility is forced to recruit out of state for them at considerable expense, many of which only stay around for a year or two before they get an even better offer elsewhere.

He was the only viable choice. First, he clearly had superior fashion senses. Second, the other applicants all had serious red flags. specifically, the man on the left, as you can see by his Pompadour hair and sports jacket, is an old academic not worth recruiting as they will demand "taking their time to get the right diagnosis" rather than just pushing glass and making the group money. Next is the woman on the left. She is clearly too excited over her prospects for a job, and given the market, this is irrational suggesting she may be imbalanced. She is also wearing a tie, and those kinds of gender politics may not jive with the rest of the group. Then there is the woman on the right in the red dress. She is obviously confrontational and defensive, as you can see by her posture. Other members of the group clearly will not like her "uppety" demeanor. And lastly is the clearly drunk man on the right. Sure, he's fun at parties, but you'll be looking to replace him within a year and have to defend him to the state board.

I am shocked none of the men are wearing bow ties. That seems to be common among our ranks. Also, why no love for people on the Norwood scale? At least put a Norwood 3 or 4 candidate in the picture.

That maybe the most disturbing illustration I have seen from CAP.

1.) Why is the big hand, presumably the prospective employer, pinching the head of the brown guy?! Like entry pathologists are french fries and the big hand is going to pick that dude up by head and dip his legs in ketchup? ranch sauce??

2.) is the brown guy supposed be Mexican or Indian or something else? I assume Indian because I dont know any Mexican pathologists, maybe Puerto Rican, but lets go Indian by sheer odds.

3.) Why is the one blonde girl cheering for him to have his head pinched off by the big hand but the others very indifferent, even butt hurt??

What elementary school has CAP employed to help with marketing?

Knew I shouldn't have come to SDN when I was thinking about switching specialties to begin with.

Some actual honesty about the crappy job market? Lots of applicants, few jobs. Been this way for decades and will continue to be this way.

So for the last 6 months where I am in Canada has been trying to recruit fresh PGY5s/fellows to join and of course we prefer Canadian trained grads first and foremost. We made it clear fellowship is not a requirement. I began by emailing the PDs across Canada letting them know. Of those that responded, it seems most residents, even those from "community oriented" programs, are doing fellowships. Of course we would like to recruit the current fellows too but I am not going to email every fellowship program in USA trying to see which one has a Canadian looking for work. My personal view is that fellowship has a cost of at least 500K (difference between 90K fellow pay vs 350K staff pay compounded at 5% over 15-20 years) so it shouldn't be that common for grads to do fellowship, but it seems it's creeping into the "norm" here as well.
