Hey guys, how does the lifestyle of a cardiologist compare with other professions...is it one in which you can have some semblance of a family life, alot of oncall or not alot, etc? Also, what type of fellowships are available after residency? Thanks!

I've spoke with several "real world" cardiologists and EVERY one of them has looked at me with sad eyes and said something to the effect of "if you want to have a reasonably good life, DON'T do cardiology." They all seem to love their work, but there is just sooo much of it.

Before clinic, go to the hospital.
Have clinic from 8/9--5/6.
Go back to hospital until 9-10???
And this is on your NON call days.

Academic cardiologists probably have a much better life but, obviously, much lower pay. <img border="0" alt="[Pity]" title="" src="graemlins/pity.gif" />

Best wishes and hope this helps.
