Hey all

I was just wondering. I'm a first year med student and we just start our unit on the CardioPulmonary System. The information we've been taught thus far is very interesting and as a result I think I may want to become a cardiologist. I know i have a while to go and things may change but .....

nevertheless, i was wondering what kind of board scores, research (is it necessary in cardio), etc one needs for getting a residency at Cook County Hospital in chicago or any other cardio program in chicago.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

peace

I think you need to first enter an Internal Medicine residency and then a cardiology FELLOWSHIP.... I THINK! It might be more beneficial to concentrate on the internal med first--then worry about cards later.

You DO need to do an IM residency first (that's three years) and then followed by a Cardiology fellowship (another three years - very few can be "fast-tracked" from an IM program, saving one year of their training). If you want to sub-subspecialize in Interventional Cards, for example, that's another year, I believe.

The previous poster is right: concentrate on Medicine first, Cards fellowship after.

Good luck.
