Cardiology Research for Radiology Application?

I'm a first year medical student. Does anyone know how radiology residencies view cardiology research? I met with a PI to talk about research and they told me to let them know if I'd like to commit to their lab. I'm just worried about closing the door to radiology in the future, even though I'm also interested in cardiology. Thanks!
