As some of you may know, my acceptance to medical school was withdrawn. Instead of beginning my medical education as a student at Harvard Medical School, I have a terrible blotch on my record which may prevent me from ever achieving my dream of becoming a physician. I am currently living in San Francisco and working in a research lab, but most importantly, trying to decide what to do with my life. There are several options before me, all appearing to be equally appealing at the moment. While I am doubtful that I will ever become a US medical student, I have a few choices.
I have ruled out osteopathic schools, since if I ever do practice medicine, it will be with a true medical degree. I am considering schools in the Caribbean, though, such as St. George's University and Ross University. While I know that I will most probably receive an inferior education, I do believe that my intelligence will make up for the teaching deficits. I would surely rise to the top of my class and be competitive for a decent US residency. Hopefully, the residency programs will look at my impressive undergraduate and MCAT records and see the wrong that was done to me. Therefore, I leave this as an open option.
Equally as appealing as Caribbean medical schools are schools of Colon Hydrotherapy. In this state of the art field, I believe that I will be serving my patients very helpfully and professionally. The I-ACT (International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy) accredits these schools to ensure that my education will be top notch. I see this to be just as prestigious as attending a Caribbean medical school. I would most probably be interested in academic colon hydrotherapy, and conduct independent research on the side. For those of you unfamiliar with this field, here is the website for I-ACT: http://www.i-act.org/ , and here is a list of some schools, many of which have their own websites http://www.i-act.org/schools.htm . With my CV, I think that I would be fairly competitive for the top programs.
This is a very difficult time in my life, and I know that I have to act soon. I currently am being paid a very low salary, and I have to make a decision very soon. Both of these types of programs have application deadlines, and I really do not want to miss them. I know that many of you may not want to help me because of my rather arrogant attitude in the past, but please give me some consideration. I am in a tough spot, and this is one of the worst moments of my life, both professionally and personally (My boyfriend from UCSF medical school that I have told some of you about has left me). I am living on my own and am extemely disillusioned from these two major life altering events of the past few months. Any and all advice would be extremely appreciated.
