As some of you may know, my acceptance to medical school was withdrawn. Instead of beginning my medical education as a student at Harvard Medical School, I have a terrible blotch on my record which may prevent me from ever achieving my dream of becoming a physician. I am currently living in San Francisco and working in a research lab, but most importantly, trying to decide what to do with my life. There are several options before me, all appearing to be equally appealing at the moment. While I am doubtful that I will ever become a US medical student, I have a few choices.

I have ruled out osteopathic schools, since if I ever do practice medicine, it will be with a true medical degree. I am considering schools in the Caribbean, though, such as St. George's University and Ross University. While I know that I will most probably receive an inferior education, I do believe that my intelligence will make up for the teaching deficits. I would surely rise to the top of my class and be competitive for a decent US residency. Hopefully, the residency programs will look at my impressive undergraduate and MCAT records and see the wrong that was done to me. Therefore, I leave this as an open option.

Equally as appealing as Caribbean medical schools are schools of Colon Hydrotherapy. In this state of the art field, I believe that I will be serving my patients very helpfully and professionally. The I-ACT (International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy) accredits these schools to ensure that my education will be top notch. I see this to be just as prestigious as attending a Caribbean medical school. I would most probably be interested in academic colon hydrotherapy, and conduct independent research on the side. For those of you unfamiliar with this field, here is the website for I-ACT: http://www.i-act.org/ , and here is a list of some schools, many of which have their own websites http://www.i-act.org/schools.htm . With my CV, I think that I would be fairly competitive for the top programs.

This is a very difficult time in my life, and I know that I have to act soon. I currently am being paid a very low salary, and I have to make a decision very soon. Both of these types of programs have application deadlines, and I really do not want to miss them. I know that many of you may not want to help me because of my rather arrogant attitude in the past, but please give me some consideration. I am in a tough spot, and this is one of the worst moments of my life, both professionally and personally (My boyfriend from UCSF medical school that I have told some of you about has left me). I am living on my own and am extemely disillusioned from these two major life altering events of the past few months. Any and all advice would be extremely appreciated.

what did you do to earn such a blotch on your record to prevent you from going to school here?

I exagerated on my amount of volunteer hours at a particular hospital. It was the only thing on my application that needed improvement and I just didn't have the time to put in the hours. I had no idea that it would be taken so seriously. I thought that it was a joke when they called me.

Squat n Squeeze- what kind of residency are you looking for? I know that some residencies are very tough to obtain after graduating from a foreign medical school but others are not quite as difficult. I would definitely recommend going to the Caribbean and getting an MD as opposed to a different route here in the states. It will be a tough 4 years, but I have known some very intelligent people that made it through having been at or near the top of their class. I don't know you but you sound like a very intelligent and reasonable person. I wish you the best of luck and I am sorry about what has happened to you thus far in this grueling process. I don't know what your situation is, but I have been through some very difficult/trying times myself and it totally blows. PM if you have any questions or for whatever reason you wish. Good luck.

PS - I like the quote from the Hartford Courant - that's my local hometown paper. I'm originally from CT.

the return of SnS!!! incredible!

Calling someone a noob is so lame. Does it really make you better that you have been registered with this site for a longer period of time? Of course not. People really need to get over the whole idea of calling others "noobs." All it does is make people uncomfortable because it is so - for lack of a better word - corny.

Is this kind of stuff med schools normally check on? Now i am worreid because I don't know the EXACT amount of hours I volunteered, and I had to approximate (accurate as far as I know) them.

Let me start out by saying, "wow".

Do you realize that DO students get exactly the same education as any of their MD counterparts with MORE curriculum thrown in? I must also say that I am glad you are TOO GOOD, as the osteopathic profession wouldn't want someone so unethical as to lie to get into medical school :meanie:

Good luck in the Caribbean, I am sure they will be lining up at the door to claim such an astute student as yourself 👎

I definitely just used approximate values as well. I kind of just took average hrs per week and multiplied it by the approx number of weeks I volunteered.

Hey I'm not the one who made a serious reply to a person named "Squat n Squeeze" about about the "state of the art" field of "colon hydrotheraphy," especially when he implies that Osteophathic degrees are not "true medical degrees."

Some of you guys are way too unforgiving and immature for that matter. So I joined in July - all that means is that I haven't wasted quite as much time as you on this stupid message board. By joining earlier and just calling people noobs, does that make you a more deserving individual? Of course not - get over yourself. You are wasting everyone's time - including your own - which is clearly not that valuable anyway.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion regarding the validity of a particular degree. Let it go.

My definition of noob is not the length of time you've been an SDN member, but ability to smell obvious and blatant trolls.

Ha - Miss Crankypants - you're not kidding. 😉

I would do the colon hydrotherapy school thing over DO school. But that's just me. Good luck to everybody.

How true. But you have a hundred posts in a month and a half so you are catching up quickly. 😀

Hey, you got trolled, why don't you let it go. Defending SnS as a legitimate poster is bound to result in failure.

Passive voice - hopefully you didn't use that in your PS.

What's a DO? Isn't that like an optometrist or something?

Of course it's not a joke. We are very seriously debating the pros and cons of cariby med schools vs colon hydrotherapy. Care to give your opinion?

Wow. Even when I was a newb I didn't take anything SNS said seriously.

Look at Squat N Squeeze's past post and you'll see how funny they are.

On that same note, I chose osteopathic over allopathic because I didn't want to just learn symptoms and diseases, I wanted to learn about the whole person because as a doctor I didn't think an allopathic education would be complete, but rather in bits and pieces.

PS: Squat n Squeeze back in the days posted about how when he applied he got into a couple of DO schools first but then let them ago after he apparently got into a couple of allopathic schools. He is an old troll.

hahahah...you been trolled girl!

Squat, i remember seeing your old posts putting down DO schools and other applicants (both MD/DO) who had lesser GPAs and MCATs than you. See what happens to conceded, cocky people. It's called karma. When I read your posts, I knew that I would never want to go to a doctor with your kind of attitude. Even to this day with your current situation, you still have that bad attitude. It's such a shame.

you know, the threads SnS starts just amaze me...

it ok if you're new around SDN/internet forums and don't know what a troll is/can't recognize one. no big deal. but what kills me is that, even after highly suspicious posts by SnS and a dozen or so people saying "he's a f***ing troll!", people still take the bait and try to "advise" him/her/whatever.

just wait--by the time this thread hits 50 posts (and it will), there will still be stragglers trying to "help" ol' SnS....how sad 🙄

ahhhh.... SnS is back again.... it's been a while.

Rock on my trollish friend, rock on.

DAAAAANG, PEEPS! As a still-quasi-n00b, until today I hadn't had the, um, dubious pleasure of an SnS encounter, but even I could tell from the very start... International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy?!?   The web site is hilarious; just the right amount of detail to hook the unsuspecting, and I gotta give 'em credit for taking out an hour or 2 to create it. Man, I'm still snickering...

EDIT: As a scientist-turned-dental-school-applicant, I'm not terribly familiar with the med field, and I recognize that colon hydrotherapy may be a totally legitimate approach to treatment of some ailments, so just for the record I wasn't snickering at the therapy, but rather the website created to... ahh, what the hell, just go on and flame me if you like. 😀

What's awsome, or sad depending on your opinion, is that he's back to prey upon the impressionable minds of a new entering class. He's seasonal, it makes me wonder if he'll stick around and become a SDN tradition.
It's embarrasing to me that I was trolled by him the first time around (last year about this time, when I was a newbie sans bewbies) instead of appreciating the comedy inherant in his posts.
So having said that, relax and enjoy the show, potential class of 2009. Welcome back SnS.

squat n squeeze & colon hydrotherapy. I laughed so much I almost shat.

Thanks for brightening-up my evening of app essays 🙂

SnS, I've been thinking colon hydro as well, but I'm worried it might be a little limiting. As a (potential) future academic enemizer, you've obviously been doing your research; have you seen any dual-degree options anywhere? For example, colon hydro / sex therapy?

I 😍 Squat n Squeeze! Even with his history he is still able to get people riled up.
