Case Western - In Trouble *****************************************

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi there,
Case Western Reserve University is NOT in trouble. There are plenty of good candidates to take over the President position and have been poised for this announcement. Case is probably stronger now that the faculty-presidential squabbling is overwith and they can move forward. Hundert is a very strong personality with very ambitious plans, some of which, went through. I am sure that some folks had a great deal of difficulty with his leadership style but Case will move on and do well.

thank you njbmd,

but why does someone with such a good mission get booted off. i really liked what he had in mind and what happened really saddened me

It's really sad how the supposed all service oriented pre-meds that posted on my other thread about case are so canniving... not everyone is like you, some people are actually genuine and try to get true advice. if i wanted case to look bad i would have actually said what i heard, but i'm keeping it to myself because when i graduate as an MD from Case, i don't want this information to actually be out there if it necessarily hasn't spread yet. For your information, i've been accepted to 3 top 10 institutions and many other schools, and i've accepted case over all these because i loved their mission and the new dean. i've searched so deep and people have warned me before and after my interviews, but i didn't listen because i was so dediated to Case's mission. but it was a current med student that actually told me the insider news about the truth behind the resignation.

i'm not waitlisted or rejected, i'm in. you can all chose to believe what you want. who cares, i'm not here to convince you guys. i don't know who closed the thread, but i hope it wasn't the same person that said that we should freely speak, because that's a hypocrit.

it really hurts me that my future classmates reject me like this. makes me really think of what i'm getting myself into.

but to be frank, all schools have issues with their leadership, so this really isn't any different. don't let this discourage you. i just hope it doesn't affect the future of the school 😎

Typically, if there are multiple threads posted by the same individual with the same information, all but one are closed - it's redundant.

Seriously, you need to get a grip.

I dont think you understand that the people are confused why you are willing to say that Case is "in trouble" but are not willing to elaborate on why you have come to this conclusion. I think the issue is your lack of complete dialogue. You are giving snippets of your opinion.

And by the way, losing a pres. is no big deal in the long run...rankings and prestige are built on more than just who has assumed the role of pres. of the university. In addition, what the med student told you is probably based on speculation. Unless that person is heavily involved in the beauracratic intricacies of the university (and has been involved for a while), he/she does not have a complete (and true) understanding of what and why this has occurred.

So maybe you should consider yourself as being canniving (in a way).

Don't you understand that whatever it was couldn't be any worse than you saying that something so awful is wrong that you don't even feel comfortable posting it? I'm sorry, but even if the president of the university had been embezzling or sleeping with underage prostitutes it wouldn't affect my opinion of the medical school- 1)because the president of the university has little effect on the medical school 2)because he resigned...
Now, if they got rid of him because they disagreed with his mission or his ideas about fundraising or whatever, that's not a big deal at all- it happens a bunch at big universities.... Politics, politics, politics...
Whatever it is, I think we're intelligent enough to evaluate it and make our own decision about whether it's a huge deal, so stop being so cryptic.... If it's a real problem, all of us will change our "conniving" ways...

Gabriella,

Like I said before, you're coming across like someone who's trying to do a smear job on the school. If you can't explain to us what's eating you because it's confidential or something, then you shouldn't have started this thread and brought it up in the first place. Now that you've opened the whole can of worms, you can't be mad at people for wanting you to back up what you say with some solid opinions (and some facts to back up your opinions would be mighty nice, too.)

Seriously, I think you should consider going elsewhere. It really does sound like Case isn't the right school for you. I still don't understand what you're all upset about concerning the school, but if whatever it is matters that much to you, don't be a martyr. Pick another school whose rep you feel is less tarnished and whose students understand where you're coming from, go there, and be happy. Don't go to Case if you're going to be miserable.
