Hi all- looking for some input in deciding between these schools.

-non-trad living in Chicago with my girlfriend (serious)
-Interested in surgical specialties

My decision has come down to proximity to my s/o, family, and friends vs. school reputation/match potential. Let me know what you think...any input is greatly appreciated!

Case Western
+better national reputation/rank
+great hospitals (Cleveland Clinic)
+great match list for competitive specialties
-expensive as heck $$$
-5 hours away from s/o in Chicago and 7 hours from family

Medical College of WI
+good surrounding hospitals (Froedert/Children’s)
+1 hour from s/o and family
+slightly cheaper $$
-less national recognition/unranked
-may be less competitive for surgical residencies

Probably MCW due to family and support system and COA. MCW will get you anywhere Case Western will.

Leaning MCW due to your personal considerations.

What are the cost differences in total?

Calculating interest and current aid packages over 4 years, the total difference is roughly 50k more for Case.

That makes it a bit more interesting. I don’t think the cost should dissuade you from Case. I think you should make your decision mostly on your personal factors. Case is a highly regarded school and matches tons into surgical specialties every year. On the other hand MCW also does well, and perhaps being in an environment near your SO and support system would propel your performance to make up for the mild boost you might get from the Case name/resources.
