Is it necessary to get any type of certification/experience before applying to become a medical scribe?

Not really. But it'll be hard to get the job if you have NO IDEA what's going on.

i've shadowed a few docs for a decent amount of time. is that enough for having an idea of what's going on?

In my area, Anatomy/Physiology or medical terminology was a pre-req. Being able to spell words and type quickly is important. Google is your friend.
