Hi,

My stats are:

cGPA 3.0
sGPA 3.6
SMP 3.4 (unfinished)
MCAT: 1) 36 (14/10/12) from January 2014
2) 26 (7/10/9) from August 2012.

Tons of clinical experience with hands on patient care in an ophthalmic setting (private practice with surgery experience, and hospital setting). MD shadowing, but no DO shadowing (but I will have that within the next few weeks and will send out update letters).

My issues are the following:

1) I have a C- in an English class that I must use for completing the 6 credits of English writing (which a lot of the schools require). I won't be able to retake this course until summer of next year due to work commitments. Is this something that schools can be flexible with? They usually require at least a C for required coursework.
2) My MCAT is from January 2014, so some schools that require that the MCAT be taken within a certain number of years of matriculation or application seem to be out of reach now (for example, UNECOM requires an MCAT within 2 years of application). Are schools at all flexible with this requirement?

Here is my school list (updated 8/9/2016)

CCOM (REJECTED)
NYIT-COM
MSU-COM
KCUMB-COM (ACCEPTED on 11/2, interviewed on 10/12)
AZCOM
UNECOM (interviewing on 11/9)
Rowan
LECOM - Erie and Seton Hill
LECOM - Bradenton

DMU-COM (secondary received, going to wait until I have shadowed on the 31st of Aug)
ACOM (secondary received)
MU-COM (secondary received)
Touro NY (secondary received)
WV-COM (secondary received)

I am a reapplicant (submitted primaries to a bunch of DOs, but only secondaries to CCOM and NYIT-COM for the past couple of years, and didn't get in because it was VERY late).

EDIT: I have been accepted to KCUMB, which was my top choice.

Thanks.

I called CCOM and they said that I have met all requirements and that I would just have to retake the class prior to matriculation if I am offered admission. I will call a few more schools and ask.

@Goro , is this sort of case something you have experience with? Thanks a lot for any advice you have.

Nope, but apply broadly and you'll be fine.

@Goro Would you be able to help me with my school list?

These are the schools I have already sent primaries to. Would you be able to comment on this list and add to it if possible? Thanks!

CCOM (secondary submitted)
NYIT-COM (secondary submitted)
MSU-COM (secondary submitted)
KCUMB-COM (secondary submitted)
AZCOM (secondary submitted)
UNECOM (secondary submitted)
Rowan (secondary submitted)
DMU-COM
LECOM (both)
Touro (both)

Also, I called KCUMB to ask about my letters (dated January 2015) and MCAT (dated January 2014), and they said that both are expired and that the admissions committee will let me know in a couple of weeks if they need updated letters and/or MCAT. I am really hoping that they make an exception, as my letters and MCAT are strong.

Good list. I'd add MUCOM, and the two FL schools. If you're not from NJ, I'd forget about Rowan, and ditto for UNECOM if you're not from the Northeast.

I have updated my school list above. I'll put the dates in later. No interview invites received thus far.

What do I say about patience??? Stop being that special snowflake who expects schools to drop everything to send you IIs. I'm really getting tired of seeing that attitude in SDN.

@Goro you are right about being patient.

I finally succeeded in finding a DO to shadow. He's a big gun at a major research hospital near my work, and I will be starting at the end of August. To me, this seems pretty late. What is the best way to approach updating schools about this? Should I wait until end of September when I have finished some sessions? Or is that very late?

Accepted to KCU, KC campus!
Congratulations on the acceptance! I'm happy for you and the relief that must bring you.

Out of curiosity, what did you finally do with regards to the above situation? (especially with regards to KCU and CCOM) Did you simply update them about the DO shadowing? If so, how and when did you go about it? Did you also need to get a DO letter or was an update sufficient in your situation? I appreciate any response in advance.

Thanks! It is a huge relief.

I submitted an update letter to KCU a couple of weeks after my interview. I probably should've submitted it a little sooner. I didn't get a letter, and I just told them that I was shadowing and I also updated them on some other things that are going on with my research job. I'm not even sure if the letter did anything, to be honest - it was sent in like a few days before my acceptance.
