    First time poster, long time follower of SDN WAMC

    STATS

    School: Top 40 (Private)
    Resident: Florida

    Year Junior: (Graduating Semester Early)
    Major: Microbiology
    Minor: Business, Religious Studies

    cGPA: 3.7
    sGPA: 3.64
    MCAT: 32 (11,10,11)

    Upward Trend cumulative GPA
    Freshman: 3.45
    Sophomore: 3.59
    Junior: 3.7

    Took Orgo 1/2 over summer at local state school, 4 year university, got A-, A respectively

    EC

    Research: 1 year in cell molec lab, performed project, no posters, got a LOR from PI

    Volunteering: two 9 day long community service trips to Buenos Aires and Argentina,

    100 hours at a retirement home for Alzheimers and Dementia Patients

    Clinical Shadowing: 3 Doctors shadowed, 2 specialist, 1 GP, 70 hours each, 210 total

    Worked at a physical therapist office (does this count?), I dealt and
    interacted with patients, in consulations and treatment

    Might be a medical scribe in NYC this summer.

    Other: Tour guide on campus (prestigious)
    Participate in community service project regularly
    Chem Tab TA( 2 semesters)
    Biology Workshop leader (similar to TA)
    5 LOR

    I plan on applying to 25-30 schools,is that too many? I had decided that many early on because of my marginal grades sophomore year, but now im sitting in a much better situation, is this good? I know my best chances are at Florida Schools

      You're fine for mid-tier Medical Schools, the only thing that could mess you up for them is bad interviews as long as you continue doing well in your courses. As far as the upper-tier medical schools such as Mt.Sinai your dad going to Mt.Sinai will help but you should raise your MCAT score for it since Mt. Sinai's average is 35 but don't retake the MCAT unless you are sure you won't decrease your score. Georgetown's averages are 3.6/32 so you are okay for Georgetown especially since your EC's are good.

        I agree. Your gpa and mcat are good, but they aren't stellar, so I would stick with mid-tier schools.
