I was recently informed by UMiami that I am in the top quartile of the waitlist right now. Does anybody (current med students, etc) have any thoughts on the likelihood of getting off that waitlist once people drop their acceptance spots (and perhaps WL spots above me)?

I haven't looked at the MSAR for U Miami, but if you have access go there and look under admission statistics to see if they have waitlist info. Some schools tell you their waitlist size and how many were accepted last cycle. Should give you a rough idea/prediction for this cycle.

Also, I hope that you are preparing for reapp just go be safe if you have no As yet. Good luck!

This feels to me like a question you should be asking in the Miami specific thread, since the answer will be different at every school. There's nothing above top quartile, though, so on its face it sounds pretty good! Good luck!!!

These types of questions are impossible to answer because WL movement depends upon a lot of things, not just people deciding to go elsewhere. An example is trying to balance the gender ratio of matriculants.

People won't like hearing that the reality is that they are only shooting for no more than half of available spots! The target really shrinks once you factor in and figure out your individual bucket that either includes or excludes: URM/ORM, LGBTQ, Low SeS, Traditional/non-Traditional etc.
