Hi everyone!

I'm headed into my junior as a Biochemistry major and wanted to see what my chances are at the moment. Haven't taken the MCAT yet but have begun prepping.

cGPA - 3.31
sGPA - 3.36 w/ A in GChem 1 & 2 and Bio 1&2. B in Orgo 1 & 2 and C+/C in Physics Analytical Chem A.
Freshmen year was a rough transition so I ended up with a 2.9 average for both semesters. My sophomore year was GPA of 3.73 and 3.81 and I've begun to do a lot better.

My EC's - Shadowing a surgeon for 50 hours so far, volunteering in hospital ER, Chem Club President, Analytical Chem TA, tons of research at my school with a publication in the works.

Looking to apply to low tier MD's, New York Resident.

In my opinion, I think you will be in good shape if you continue the upward trend over the next two years. Keep doing medically-related volunteer work, etc. Get a 34+ on the MCAT and you're set.

Strongly concur...the current GPAs are too weak for MD schools. However, keep in mind that you're fine for any DO program.

Thank you..that is a bit scary. I'm projecting another two semesters of 3.5 and up, so even then will I be too low?

You'll have to do the math to figure out your final cGPA/sGPA. Ideally, it should be around

3.4+ for low-tier schools
3.5+ for low-medium tier
3.6-+ for top tier
3.7+ top 10

DO programs? Range is from 3.0 to 3.4+, depending upon the school.
