Chances for Navy HPSP?

Is this still a good time to start applying or is it late to start the process? How do my stats look compared to other successful applicants from recent years?

cGPA: 3.61
sGPA: 3.64
DAT: AA 28, TS 29, RC 30, PAT 30
Work Experience: Dental Assistant
Volunteer Experience: Volunteer EMT (300 hrs)

Your stats are top of the top and as long as you dont have any major health issues you should be a lock for HPSP. Just make sure you love you country, get all your paperwork done ASAP, and get to MEPS asap.

From my experience, HPSP is based mostly all on stats/prior service. Many of the people I know were in the 3.5+/21AA+ range and got HPSP. Stats are key as you're safe a bet to graduate on time. good luck!

I have seen in some older posts regarding Navy HPSP that with stats above a certain threshold, an interview may be skipped. Is this still true? I'm asking to get a better idea of the next steps and time line.

From personal experience, you still do the interview even with those stats listed in that post. When I applied, the interviewers had to fill out a form and evaluate your interview that was submitted as part of your package for review. My best friend who is in medical school was told that he would have the interviews bypassed, but this was with the army rather than the navy and he was 3.9+,520+.

Either way, the interviews were arguably the most important part of my application because they convinced me that committing to HPSP was the right thing for me as I was on the edge when I began the application process. If you're lucky like I was, you'll meet some mentors during your interview that will help you beyond your application.

I'll do that. But as for my original question, am I late in the game at this time?

If you are applying for the 20-21 cycle to enter dental school in fall 2021 then youre early or on time.

But you have to proactive and make sure you get all your paperwork in and that you get to MEPS ASAP.

Apply to all three branches if you’re serious. Someone on here mentioned the Navy will be offering half as many spots this year compared to last. While your DAT is impressive, your GPA is middle of the road, and plenty of people with high stats get shot down every year.

I was at a meeting 4 years ago and the Chief of the Dental Corps said the HPSP had around a 50% acceptance rate. That was then, this is now. With the proposed cutbacks in military medicine and dentistry, I can only imagine how much more competitive it will become.

I heard Air Force this year was about 30%. This was before the DHA cuts.

You're not late to the game. But remember the corona is messing with everything, including recruiting and meps. good luck

Take Big Hoss's advice to heart @0Mik3cho. I had good stats with competitive package and only applied to Navy 4 year this past cycle --- did not get selected. It stings when there were two other branches on the table that I didn't apply to.
