How much does a dramatic upward trend help? My freshman year at another university was by no means good. However I have really stepped up my game and plan to continue improving greatly. How much does the presence of an upward trend really help? Just curious.

Well.. What kind of difference are we talking?

I think providing an actual gpa would provide context...

i.e. an upward trend with a 3.5 gpa means far more than an upward trend with a 3.2 gpa from what I see on thse threads... But hey, thats just my ignorant opinion :]

My freshman year was : 3.08 cGPA and 2.74 sGPA
My freshman year I was not focused and not determined like I am now.

I transferred to a new university with more research focus and was A LOT happier. I ended my sophomore year with a cGPA 3.50 and sGPA 3.27.

I know that I can continue to bring that GPA up, I just don't want that freshman year to hurt me too much.
