Hey, I just thought I'd post my stats, see what everyone thought...appreciate any advice....

cGPA-3.75, sGPA-3.55

MCAT- 9BS, 10VR, 9PS, S (28S)

Volunteer-3 months hospital @ 8hrs/week, 3 months United Way @ 4 hrs/ week, 3 summers hospital (150 hrs), 2 summers religious camp volunteering (only about 40 hrs)

Shadowed Cards, GI, fam prac, oncologist, neonatal- ~150 hrs total

Research-1 year collagen research with captioned image poster presentation

IM Tennis 2 yrs, cricket 1 yr, ice hockey 1 yr

Honors College, Cum Laude, highest scholarship out of high school (fell into college trap 1 semester..it was a bad one...)...Phi Kappa Phi, NSCS, Golden Key

Plenty of hobbies but those don't really count...As far as essays and LORs, they should be good, and ready to go early June(unless committee letter takes a long time, they don't start interviews until May)...I am retaking the MCAT mid-June, and I am really worrying this is going to kill my chances, since I won't get scores back until mid-July...I plan on working on secondary essays from last year's prompts, so they will be ready to go as soon as I get my scores and I actually get the apps, so hopefully complete sometime late July but more likely August...I am confident I can bring my score up, I know I didn't spend enough time studying for the first one, and I am studying on a strict schedule now...

Anyway, I'll sotp talking, but as far as schools, I am basically applying to everything but top 20%...Tufts/Georgetown are my dream/reach schools, but I am a Florida resident and am looking at all Florida schools...I am open to public and private schools, since the alternative is Carrib MD which is more expensive than any other schools anyway...I would really appreciate any advice you have, and sorry for making this post so long,.,

The good news is that your clinical and research ECs aren't really "low." A couple hundred hours of clinical experience in several specialties and a year of research with a poster aren't bad.

What's going to hurt is your MCAT, as you know, and that would seem to be your biggest weakness. If you apply early and broadly, I think you'll have a decent shot even with this current score assuming you interview well, as your GPA is fine and your ECs are pretty good. But if you submit in June, you'll be complete at your schools sometime in July after your re-take (assuming you get a secondary from the schools based on your first MCAT score), you won't be THAT far behind; where you really start getting into trouble is if you submit the AMCAS in August and September.

Good luck to you 🙂

Hey, thanks for the info...I'm probably going to apply DO, and I know they are becoming more and more popular but it seems like people are always going to make the distinction...don't get me wrong, I respect DO's defintiely, have them as family and friends, and find nothing wrong, but it seems allopathic schools open more doors (US, not Carrib...I think I would choose DO over carribb MD since I dont have any plans to move out of the US)...

I am studying much more for this mcat than the first one (only studied 3 solid weeks, took a couple practice tests, overall it was a terrible idea)...I hope to get 31+, hopefully 32 though...

Hopefully it'll go alright, ill apply as easrly as possible without rushing essays and such...any other adive is appreciated!

And Spurs, congrats on your acceptances, Baylor is amazing!
