Hi, I would like to know if I would be accepted into a t20 medical school with my stats: I got a B in physics my freshman year. Additionally, I wanted to take ochem at a community college over the summer so that I could get practice for ochem at my university. However, I realized it would mess with my transcript, so I ended up withdrawing from the community college course over the summer. Am I screwed- what can I do to improve my chances? Thank you!

Impossible to answer, as getting accepted is 100% on you.

We can advise on chances for IIs.

It doesn't take a 4.0 to get into med school. Ws are not Fs.

First of all don't sweat the W, it happens and it won't hurt you. Ditto with the B.

Second of all my (maybe a little too brunt and honest advice) is that at this point it is impossible to assess your odds of med school admissions. Continue to keep up good grades, get an MCAT score, and make sure you get involved in a combination of clinical experience (150 hours minimum), non-clinical volunteering (150 hours at least), shadowing (50 hours), research (any) and leadership (any). Then once you have all of that + an MCAT score you can fill out a WAMC and we can see how it shakes out at that point.

It's impossible with so little info to assess your chances of acceptance at any medical school, much less a top 20. Nothing you wrote is an automatic rejection. To get accepted do the following:

1. Keep your grades up.
2. Get a great MCAT score after taking all the pre-requisites for it.
3. Gain clinical exposure, preferably several hundred hours of it.
4. Get involved in a community service activity that is important to you and that also provides you with the opportunity to interact with those different from you and in some way disadvantaged.
5. If you are really aiming for t20, research experience is a definite plus.
6. Make time to do something(s) that bring you joy and is not part of preparing for medical school.

And if this list leads you to conclude that you would be wise to take a gap year or two, take it.
