what percentage of USA categorical IM applicants match to one of their top 3 choices in general?

I've heard that ~85% of all resident applicants get their top three choices, but don't know if that also includes FMGs. Don't know about categorical IM, specifically.

I heard similiar numbers ~90%. I'm not entirely sure i understand the numbers with the Match results. It seems like 97.2% match with average number of people ranking 4.6 programs, this is US grads and they fill up 55% of the available spots. There's no sure thing but it's high up there.

From what the PD at my home program told me, in Internal Medicine slightly over 90% match at their first choice and somewhere in the high nineties match at one of their top 3. I have a hard time believing these numbers though.

Maybe your PD meant that in people going into IM from YOUR school, over 90% of students get their first choice. I seriously doubt that is true for the country. Are you from a highly ranked program?

that sounds too high of a percentage for everyone at their first choice but i believe that rate for the top 3. If US grads are choicen first and they only take up 55% of the possible spots it should mean people will get their higher ranks. I just dont believe it's that high for the first choice because i know so many people who have the same place ranked #1, perhaps it's a regional thing.
