I have been complete at PCOM, NYCOM, CCOM, and NJ-SOM since October, I have a 25R (8B, 10V, 7P), 3.12 GPA, EC's (fraternity leadership, hospital volunteering, helped to start a stem cell advocacy group on campus), research experiance in biotech and clinical, work experiance with children, and letters of rec from researchers, doctors, professors. I go to U of Michigan-Ann Arbor, a very competitive pre-med university which should hopefully factor into my lower GPA. Last semester I got all A's to bring my GPA up from a 3.02. I havent heard a single word from these schools. I am an alternate at KCOM, and interview waitlisted at CCOM. I thought i had a good shot at these schools? What's the deal?

Have you contacted the other schools to see if they received all of your letters? At least 1 of my letters got lost at all 3 schools I applied to. I had to call them to get them to find them. Also, calling them to check your status might stimulate something to happen to your file.

CCOM and UMDNJSOM are 2 of the more competitive schools...and PCOM has preference to regional applicants...you probably should have applied more broadly considering your stats are below average even at less competitve schools...i would apply to more schools asap...if those are the only schools you want to go to..then retake classes to raise your gpa...and maybe retake the mcat..good luck

You should apply to more schools.
each school look for different qualities.

What is your science GPA? That could be hindering some decisions. Overall GPA is ''ok'' considering you have some LORs and experience volunteering ect... But is science GPA low?

My science GPA is essentially the same. It was a 3.0 last semester and I got A's in more sciences so I think its around a 3.1.

I can only echo what others have said...apply to some other schools. The ones you applied to might say "no" but you need only be accepted to one of them to be called "doctor" when you graduate. Every day there are potential students who are accepted by one school, while another school doesn't even want to see their secondary. Why? Who f'n knows?

umdnjsom's mcat is prolly 3 pts higher than yours, and their gpa is like 3.5 or 3.6 average. nice ec's though.

Hi there,

I think you should call them and check if they got all of your LORs. I found out that COMP lost all of my LORs even though I sent them 2 times (overnight).

I agree with the above.

This process is so entirely random, yet we insist on attaching some sort of significance to everything that happens. But there is no ONE thing on an application that keeps you from getting a secondary or interview or acceptance(unless, of course, you're a multiple ex-convict).

This also, incidentally, is the reason that many admissions offices tend to be vague at best when you ask them why you have been rejected.

Try not to get too down on yourself. I had stats similar to yours the first time I applied. I had a 3.4 cumulative, 2.8 science and 24T MCAT, and I was flat-out rejected at every school I applied to. Mind you, much of this had to do with the lateness of my applications(I wasn't completed until Thanksgiving). I had already graduated, so by the time the next application cycle rolled around, I couldn't change anything except my MCAT on my applications. Retake the MCAT (in APRIL, NOT AUGUST!!!), and turn that application in on June 1st. Make sure your secondaries are going out literally the morning after you receive them, and you'll FOR SURE get in somewhere. Raising your MCAT a few points wouldn't hurt your cause, but mostly right now what's hurting you is the lateness of your application. By the time you'd completed your application, many have already had multiple interviews, and some even had a couple acceptances in hand. Best of luck to you. You'll do fine!

As an alternate you have a very good chance of getting in. Some schools accept almost twice as many students as actually matriculate. So good luck on that front.

Even though you may not need to take the MCAT again you should because the adcom's will ask what you have done in the interim. And, if you haven't been taking classes(and you were not studying for the MCAT) it won't look good on your part.

As has been said, the single best thing you can do for yourself, aside from like a 30 MCAT this April, would be to apply on the first day allowed and complete the sec.'s within days of recieving them.

You have decent stats that should land you somewhere.

Were you able to finish the applications early and check up on the schools records?

Maybe you should try calling the admissions office. This can help clear up a lot of things. Sometimes I hesitate to call their office, but it always helps to do so in the end.

Good luck and God speed
