Changing dissertation supervisors

I'm about to go into my second year of a clinical psychology program. After spending the year in my current lab, I've decided that the type of research I'm doing really isn't for me and am planning on switching supervisors and moving into a more clinically focused area of research (meeting with some profs in a few weeks)....

Has anyone had experience in doing this before? What is the best way to approach with my current supervisor? Looking for some advice.

I switched and I just explained that I wanted to go in a different direction with my research. Granted, my program's pretty open to people working with different faculty, so it might be different.
