cheap flights

Ok, so I just read the New Yorker article on Ryanair and easyjet. I flew around Europe a few years ago on them, but the ticket OUT there can be pretty expensive, especially during the summer. Now, however, I'm going to be spending the summer in New York. I know there are cheap hops across the atlantic from New York, but can't seem to find any right now. I sure would like to take a couple of weeks to travel this summer, if I can make it work. Any advice?
