For those waiting to hear back from CMS or have been accepted already, do you know when they'll be handing out their acceptances? Does any one know if they are still accepting? If you have some news tell me. Thanks

Hi Tristan,

I am also still waiting for Finch's response. I interviewed April 4th and since then have been put on hold. When I called last week they said that there have so far been 46 withdrawls (up till then the class was full) so they should be giving out more acceptances these days. The bad thing is that they are continuing to interview so they are adding more and more people to the pile. When did you interview?

Nugirl,

I actually interviewed back in mid-january so I have been waiting a while. I usually call them every month or so, but they always tell me the same thing: "We haven't made a decision yet". I'm just praying to have an acceptance somewhere this year.

Tristan,

I wish you the best of luck with Finch. I was just there and of course Im still on hold. The class now stands at 130 people out of 190 and they said they expect many more withdrawls in the coming month. They also said that the next meeting is the week of the 10th. Did you ever findout maybe where you are on the "hold" list?

Finch has one of (if not the) longest period of trying to fill their class. You have plenty of time.

finch's class is so much smaller than hahnemann's! it must take mcp forever!!!

Thanks you guys for all your replies. I really appreciate it. Sometimes some info can give us some peace of mind. Let me know if you have anymore.

I just came back from an interview ther last week and the Kristine Jones told us that there were 144 spots filled right now for an estimated 185 seats. She said they expect to be a lot of movement in the coming weeks up til orientation on July 16.

I guess I should add that they will be interviewing until LATE June, which is kind of bad news. Also, they usually accept a bunch of people from their Masters in Applied Physiology, I don't know if the 144 figure includes those from that program...if not, about 30-40 people supposedly get in from that Masters program, also bad news. Despite all this, I still have the impression that we all have a fairly good chance, good luck guys.

doe anybody know when they interview until?

I believe that they are interviewing till the 21st of June. I don't understand why they are continuing to interview when they have between 100 and 150 people waiting for a spot currently! It just doesn't seem fair.

When I went there yesterday the guy at the desk said the earlier you interviewed the better chance you have for admission. But I dont know how true that really is. He also said that they expect a huge turnover rate. He expected around 100 withdrawls total. I really hope that is the case!

I'm interviewing there tomorrow. If their next meeting is on June 10th then we are all in the same pool.

Does anyone know if Finch has rejected people POST interview? This is relevant to the people who are on hold just to see if they are REALLY considering us or just holding on to us till the end and then reject us.

We were told at my interview day that they do reject people post-interview, don't know of any though. Others are put on hold or accepted. I guess a good thing for those on hold is that they don't have a ranked waitlist. Orientation for Finch is really around the corner, so hopefully it does not take too long to hear from them.

It's much appreciated. :) Im really worried because Finch is one of my last hopes of getting in this year.

Does anyone know any specific person who was rejected post interview just so that we have proof of what Finch is telling people? Thanks and good luck to all of you!

Hello guys,

Just to let everyone know, I called the school yesterday and got some not-so-pleasing info. They told me that they had 40 more slots available. However, they also said that they will be pulling out 30 people from their master's program. This leaves us with 10 spots and the spots of those who drop out. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I just hope that I get in somewhere. Let us know if you have more info. Good luck to all.

This is CONFLICTING info and you shouldn't let it get your hopes down. I just interviewed on Thursday and there were 60 spots available and they were expecting MANY more to open up. Unless 20 were accepted from these past few interviews(which is not the case since the committee meeting is next week) then 40 isn't true.
Second, there are not 30 people in the master's program. I interviewed with two people from it and they said that there are only 12 graduating. A faculty doctor said the same. There is an AP program however most of those people are accepted already.

So keep ya head up,

John

Does anyone know how many people are on "hold" right now or waiting for a spot? A month ago it was between 100-150 people. Anyone have an update on the current number? That might give us a better idea of our chances.

Johne, about how many people were there on your interview day, and do you know how many are left to interview? Also, did they tell you the number of total acceptances made this year so far(last year it was 439 (total))?

On my inteview day there were six people.
They will accept over half those interviewed.

40, 60...I don't think it really matters how many spots they have open right now because there will be a lot opening up, hell 40 is a ton compared to other med schools, being that it is June 5, only about 6 weeks before orientation even starts at CMS. So I think we all have an excellent chance here, despite the 30 or so spots going from the AP masters. BTW, why is it that the people from the masters program is not included in the total seats filled so far? If they are in, why not include them in the count?

Im planning on calling on Tues so Ill post any news that I hear from Finch. Ill ask: about my status ( ), the number of people on hold, the number of seats left, and the total number of acceptances already offered.

Does anyone else think I should ask anything else that may be relevant?

HEy all...saw the topic and decided to jump in. I happen to be one of the people in the masters program who is anxiously awaiting a decision (hopefully by next week) so I can maybe shed some light for you guys. The AP's are not supposed to hear back until either around now or next week but most of them already know where they stand since they needed to merely graduate to get in and they had their interviews back in September. I woudl guess about 30 or so of them will get in...Im not sure if they are included in the 140 or whatever seats filled. For the other masters (the MIS) 9 people interviewed and of those some were borderline in terms of their grades so I wouldnt expect MISers to cut into the seats that much. Finch is interviewing into late June and I did hear story about a current med student there who is gonna be an M2 next year that got interviewed really late (close to July I think) and got accepted. So keep your heads up!! Best of luck to all of you!!

Just to let you guys who are waiting to hear from CMS, I'm going to withdraw my acceptance tomorrow. Hopefully, the spot will go to one of you guys!

Good luck next year, and you have made the person who gets your spot very happy! :)

I'm going to McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. This was one of my top choices.

NuGirl, I really hope you get into CMS!

i heard from a friend, chicago med has a lot of students from cali? is this true?

•i heard from a friend, chicago med has a lot of students from cali? is this true?•••••It's true :) I think last year's MS1 class had around 70 CA students in a class of 195

Dr. Foxy,

I was reading another post and it said you applied late. how late? is it unusual for a medical school to still interview this late?
thanks! :D

I sent in my AMCAS application on October third, and sometimes I held onto secondaries for more than a month. Most of them were sent in late Oct/All of Nov/and a *few* in early december. Luckily, Finch's application was short and sweet so I sent it right back. :)

It is unusual for schools to interview late, but not for Finch. My student host at my interview interviewed very late, was accepted 2 weeks later, and had to start school a week after that! She was called to interview and was luckily in the Chicago area at the time visiting friends. Otherwise she would have had to jump on a plane from Cali. Crazy..........

p.s. I just checked and I wasn't even sent my Finch secondary until Nov 29th, so my application was not complete until December. I was invited to interview in late February for an April interview.

thanks for the info doc foxy!

Has anyone gotten any new info today from Finch? I have been trying to call them but I keep getting the machine. I guess Ill just have to keep calling. If anyone has found something out, please post!!!!

I just got thru and the only new info that I have is that there are now only 110 people in the class out of 185. So there are 75 spots open which is a lot! Hopefully we all will be accepted soon!

Did anybody hear anything related to today's ADCOM meeting?

•••quote:•••Originally posted by johne:
•Did anybody hear anything related to today's ADCOM meeting?•••••How do you know it was today?

I don't think that there is a committee meeting this week, or today. It's not listed on the events listings on their website. They have Interviews listed for this week but no meeting for the adcom, which is usually on the list. Maybe they forgot to put it on the website. Who was the one who started the rumor about a meeting today?

It is good news that there are 75 spots open at this time. It just sucks that interviews are still going on through the end of this month.

BTW, does anyone know how they contact people for acceptances at this point in the cycle...call, or still by snail mail?

Today when I called, the lady who answered the phone said that the next earliest time that we can find out anything is next week so there must be a meeting sometime soon. I dont know the exact day though.

I don't think Finch calls applicants with acceptances. I believe they still notify people thru the mail.

75 spots is a lot, and I know that number will even grow. When I talked to the guy last month he said that CMS usually gets 100 withdrawls, and it looks like that will happen again this year. Hopefully there will be even more than 100!!! he only problem is that fact that they are STILL interviewing and there are A LOT of people on hold right now. Plus, the AP people are going to take up some of the spots. :(

Did anyone else call today?

I interviewed on May 30th and the admissions officer told me that we should find out sometime this week (he said in the middle of the week of the 10th.)

What admission officer are you refering to? Kristine Jones?

Good luck everyone! I wish there was something I could do to get all of you in. I still think you guys have a good chance because they notoriously have a lot of movement. Buena Suerte! :)

Foxy

NO not Kristen. She's the dean.
Just one of the young guys behind the desks. He welcomed us and showed the video.

Or maybe not the dean but the director.

hey everyone,

When I called last week CMS told me that there was a admissions committee meeting June 10. If we call today, I bet they have some more info our application. With 70 spots left, we can cross our fingers and hope for the best. Best of luck to everyone.

Ok, I think I'm going to call a little later today since the adcom seems to have met yesterday. Thanks for the info.

I just called CMS and was told that there has been nothing updated regarding my application thus far and was told to give them another 2 weeks. :( I hope this is not bad news.

Anyone else give them a call today?

Hi I just called Finch again. Luckily, I spoke with the guy. (The lady who also answers the phone there is really obnoxious).

I got a lot of new info! NO ONE is rejected post interview. All go into the "hold" category. He said that there are about 150 people in this category. I asked how people are reviewed since it is an unranked list. He said that Finch reviews people by their scores based on the MCAT, GPA, and interview (so in a way we are ranked).

The next time to find out info is at the end of June, so in two weeks.

Last year, 439 people were accepted and a total of 573 were interviewed. I forgot to ask how many were so far interviewed and accepted. That can tell us approximately of our chances. If someone ends up calling today can they please ask this info? I cant call again cause I dont want to annoy them.

Nice, very encouraging info there. 76% of those interviewed last year were accepted.

johne, hear anything yet?

•••quote:•••Originally posted by SolidGold:

johne, hear anything yet?•••••The 76% though is probably the acceptance rate at the WAY beginning. As more spots are filled the % gets lower and lower. At this point you probably have around a 30% chance of acceptance. 150 people, probably more since they are still interviewing, are competing for around 50 seats (since Master's people will take the rest up).

The 50 seat number is sure to still go up and the people that are on hold might have already been accepted somewhere else so our chances aren't bad.
I called as well and I was told by the young guy to call back at the end of the week. This may be good news for me..??
