My institution’s CAP Director will go on a rant about it. Some programs will accept apps via ERAS but not participate in the NRMP. They will also give you about a few days to accept/decline a prematch position as well. They technically shouldn’t but it’s how some fellowships survive. (The Director also added it’s not a bad reflection on you if you take it as long as you love the place).

When do you suppose the invite deadlines are? What might we assume are some of the reasons why the rest of the programs left on some of our applications are delayed in sending out invites compared to the programs that sent them the first week of August?

Waiting on a last one from the East Coast. Haven't received any rejections over here.

Same here! Got invites but none were from my first 3 programs on my wish list. No rejections yet. Delayed response!!! They are not even answering when I sent them an email. I know that some programs were sending invites till end of October last year but no idea why some reply early and others make us wait that long!

Based on last year's forum, it appears interview invites started to calm down around mid September, but someone did post that they got an invite the final week of October.

I'm missing all but one program response. A little shocked and happy right now, as I didn't think it would turn out this way. I'm not attending all interviews, of course, so that saves money/time. One of the CAP fellows I've been in touch with said at the end of the day it's all about location. Any thoughts on that?

I don’t think there’s too early. I think the programs appreciate feedbacks as early as possible.

Btw, are all of the invites sent out already? Any insights into whether certain programs have interview spots left?

I mean if I haven’t heard about an invite lol. It looks like invites are still trickling out but have definitely slowed down.

Hey guys! I am highly disappointed. I don't know why I was told and why I was thinking that you usually end up getting interviews from almost all programs you apply to. I applied mid-August to ten programs and I have only heard from 3. (that too includes two of my least favorites). Are programs even sending out invites anymore or not?

Disappointed due to late responses as well. But on the bright side I would expect programs to be still sending out invites as I only got replies from less than 60% of my programs. Hope that helps :)

Hey all! I just found this thread and plan to return and list my invitations, though it seems late in the season to be useful to anyone. I have a quick question—when y’all send thank yous’ to programs, have you heard back? I don’t necessarily expect a long reply, or even a meaningful one, just maybe “thanks for the thought, best of luck”, though even that may be leading and interpreted in some way. I ask because during residency interviews I often heard back. I have emailed my #1 program and heard nothing and I’m a little worried. Thought my interview day went really well. Thanks for your thoughts in advance.
 
Do y’all think the bulk of invites have gone out? Some California places have been slow?

Most PDs are busy and almost never write back after receiving a thank you letter. Don't worry about it!

Not sure, I applied to 6 and waiting to hear back from my last one!
 
How is everyone's interviews so far? I have two down and a bit more to go.

I’m at the halfway point! I front loaded them for September and wish I spread them out a bit more lol are ppl sending thank you’s to everyone (like all interviewers)? Or waiting for their top ones for PDs?

Congrats! In a way, it's better to do it earlier than later. You don't want to know how I scheduled mines. It's the opposite of what you've got going on. I was thinking before ranking, we can post some program reviews, since there are not many recaps on child psych fellowship interviews on this forum. Just a thought.

I sent thank you's to all interviewers. My thank you with the PDs so far are a touch personal and upfront.

Aside from the "top" programs (NYU, MGH, Brown, Yale, UCSF, etc), I assume it's going to be like any other residency/fellowship - anywhere that's desirable to live is going to be more competitive. Major cities like LA, SF, NYC, maybe Boston and Chicago, or more broadly, the northeast + west coast will be more competitive than the southeast/south or the Midwest, with some caveats. Obviously, it's child psych, not cardiology, it's hard to compare a small community program in a large city to a big academic program in a small city, etc.

Plus, I'd imagine all bets are off if there are a lot of of internal candidates.

Has anyone gotten an AACAP reception invitation from a program that you HAVE NOT gotten interview invite? I’m going to AACAP meeting this year and feel like they probably made a mistake (NYU..?? How did they know?).. i know it sounds obsurd to think this might be in lieu of an interview. I’m not sweating it; I’m up for any free meal. Should I be sweating over it?

I got an invite for the NYU AACAP reception before I got my official interview invite ‍♀️Idk how that works
