i must have done it a million times while in med school, ended up choosing something totally different for residency, but nevertheless, it was all in good fun. enjoy, and hopefully it even helps.

woah, thats weird
it basically came up with the only 2 specialties i would ever even consider
this **** works dawg

Rank Specialty Score
1 psychiatry 45
2 neurology 45
3 psychiatry 45
4 neurology 45
5 psychiatry 45
6 neurology 45

The questions are vague, repetitive, and borring. I don't see how it could ever work.

i guess that means u either didnt finish it, or u finished it but it didnt come up with the specialty u wanted =)

Does psychriatry come up number one for everyone? Are you sure some shrink didn't write this program in an attempt to reduce the shortage by implanting the idea in everyon's head that they are best suited to psychiatry? ;)

jajaajajajajaja, i could see that happening, but no, a friend got radiology, immmunology, pathology, and the likes, cuz he doesnt like listening to people

Not for me - psych came up last!

Here's my top ten list:

1 occupational med 47
2 urology 46
3 thoracic surgery 46
4 plastic surgery 46
5 physical med & rehabilitation 46
6 radiation oncology 46
7 general surgery 45
8 radiology 45
9 otolaryngology 45
10 ophthalmology 45

Guess I'm going to have to do really, really well in med school. In other news, plastics (primarily reconstructive) and ophth are definitely potential interests of mine! Neato!

My number one came up pediatrics, which is so funny because I can't stand kids.

I got occupation medicine for #2.

Neurology, what I have been wanting to go into all along, was #29 or something on the list.

Makes you wonder . . . .

fun though.

1 pulmonology 47
2 general surgery 46
3 pathology 46
4 otolaryngology 45
5 orthopaedic surgery 45
6 urology 45
7 cardiology 45
8 endocrinology 44
9 allergy & immunology 44
10 nuclear med 44

Psychiatry was second to last from me with a score of 35, just above pediatrics (30). I've always sort of wanted to do neurosurgery, which showed up in 12th place with a score of 44.

Thoracic Surgery was #1
Pulmonology #2

EM was around 27, damn.

Well I said that I was a good listener, but didn't like listening, so I got psych. :D It also listed a couple that I'm seriously considering, though (within two points). Sorry. I'm in a playful mood today. :) I couldn't resist.

1. Psychiatry
2. Aeorspace med (which is interesting, because I plan to be a dive medicine specialist, which is quite similar -- aeorspace med would mean Texas  )
3. Neurosurg (great speciality, crummy lifestyle)
4. Rheumatology
5. Pulmonology
6. Nephrology
7. Radiology
8. Infectious Disease (are you KIDDING me????)
9. Neurology (this is what I want to do)
10. Derm

1 thoracic surgery 50
2 nuclear med 50
3 pulmonology 50
4 neurosurgery 49
5 infectious disease 49
6 obstetrics/gynecology 49
7 orthopaedic surgery 49
8 general surgery 48
9 nephrology 48
10 allergy & immunology 47

Basically right on the dot, primarily referring to surgical subspecialties (im debating between neuro and ct surg, latter of which obviously includes general surg).
Psych and family medicine came out last, again, right on the dot.

BTW, the fact that the questions are vague and repetitive is a very deliberate method used often in questionnaires to establish accuracy and repeatability.

Did eveyone who had neurosurgery in the top ten also have infectous disease in the top ten? What's up with that?

I said I loved listening to people, hearing their life stories, and relate well to others. My top recommendation was radiology. WTF? Of course I also said I love gadgets and money. :)

Rank Specialty Score
1 radiology 44
2 anesthesiology 42
3 dermatology 41
4 colon & rectal surgery 41
5 gastroenterology 41
6 psychiatry 41
7 ophthalmology 41
8 nuclear med 40
9 neurology 40
10 urology 40

gotta love how colon and rectal surgery falls right after dermatology. apparently they require similar traits

preventive medicine was no. 1 for me. then it's neurology, derm, and ER.

I guess I'm a life-style kind of person :D

(here's a kicker: I also got aerospace med in my top 10!)

I guess I'm the only one who thought the ranking was bizzare. My top 20 matches were internal medicine and its subspecialities, the very field(s) that repell me. My interests (surgery and its subspecialites) were ranked dead last.

Hmmm.... I wonder (since it's V-Day and all) maybe opposites do attract.

ok wtf. everyone is getting a diff specialty for each rank, but i only got psychiatry and neurology in top 10, i totally understand, since i cant see myself doing anything else.
but THEY dont know that.

because its a silly goddamn test and a pain in the ass to answer the same question over and over, i stopped way before it ended.

Here's mine:

1 urology 43
2 emergency med 43
3 neurosurgery 41
4 plastic surgery 41
5 pediatrics 41
6 ophthalmology 41
7 nuclear med 41
8 otolaryngology 40
9 physical med & rehabilitation 40
10 aerospace med 40

Though emergency med is definitely one of my favorite choice, I've never even thought about urology! And neurosurgery is right up there, but why would my neurology score be down toward the bottom?

I guess I'll go for emergency med, so I better study hard! Isn't that one of the most competitive residencies?

1 radiology 45
2 nuclear med 45
3 obstetrics/gynecology 44
4 pathology 44
5 orthopaedic surgery 44

This survey is so stupid. I mean who here isn't "interested in organization, a leader, or pay attention to detain"
