What does anyone who goes to Univerisity of Cincinnati think? What's the city like- I've heard its in a not so good area. Are you glad you went there. What do you do for fun? Thanks

Hey man. I've lived in Cincinnati my entire life, and I've worked on UC's med campus...so I think I can give you some insight. The neighborhood is not Beverly Hills, but it's not that bad. I think it just depends what your personal tolerances are. If you need to be in a suburban area, then perhaps UC isn't the best school for you.

I have plenty of friends that went to UC for undergrad and lived in Clifton. They're all still alive, and none of their cars were vandalized. I go to Xavier, which is in the Avondale / Evanston / Norwood area...which is not great either, so maybe I'm just used to it. But you don't have to live in Clifton to go to UC. Hyde Park and Mt. Lookout are both very nice areas full of students and young professionals. The rents are obviously a bit higher, but you're still only 10 minutes from campus.

I've pulled many a late night in the lab, and have never felt apprehension while walking to my car. Just see the area for yourself...obviously some people are going to feel differently than I.

Cincinnati is a great overall program. The curriculum is a highly integrated systems approach that really helps reinforce the material. Faculty here are all very friendly and receptive to students. They are always trying to get feedback from the students and changes are implemented every year. Classmates are all good people and work cooperatively. students are always sending out review sheets, posting good websites etc.

cincinnati childrens hospital is one of the best in the country. tons of research and great facilities. every fellowship in peds that exists is offered at this hospital. if you are interested in peds this is an excellent opportunity.

the location - not the best part of town but not the worst either. Some students live close by so they can walk to school but there are a lot people who choose to live off campus in the surrounding neighborhoods which are all very nice and have plenty of things to do.

for fun - i guess we do what everyone else does, hang out, eat, and go to bars. the food in this area is excellent. lots of unique mom and pop type places in addition to the mega chains. a good selection of bars, lets see you have the dance party type trendy bars, college bars, dive bars, upscale bars, indie bar, take your pick. one thing lacking is a good local music scene, still some good bands will roll through every once in a while. you can also go and see a bengals or reds game if you want to see the home team lose.

culture - not the best but we do have a brand new contemporary arts center, and a nice independent movie theatre. there are a few different festivals like octoberfest, taste of cincinnati, tall stacks if youre into that.

overall - i think its a great program with lots of ambition to grow. definitely a good choice for med school in ohio. im only an MS2 so i cant comment on the clinical years here but from what ive heard the training here is excellent.

You can also run a search for cincinnati or cinci and it will pull up a lot of other threads about the city and school.

I've had a great time here and I don't think that it is that ghetto, but as noted above, it depends on your tolerence.

Moones......Is that Ed? Just wondering, Monique is wandering around here as well sometimes.

U of Cincy COM rocks. Best thing about this school is the students. Tyson is a great example. As far as the neighboorhood is concerned, the area directly around the school is not the greatest, but less than 1 mile away, you'll find $1 million dollar homes. You won't have to go far to find a nice place to live. Any other questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck. Hope to see you here.

Wow, I guess everyone covered pretty much everything already. It's nice to see so many Cincinnatians on here! I really like the school... the students and faculty are great (for the most part). The neighborhood kinda sucks, which is why I live elsewhere, but as long as you use some common sense you're fine. I rarely hear of any violent crime... just the occasional car being broken into. If you have any questions, feel free to send a PM. I'm a 3rd year, so I can tell you what I know about the clinical years, if you want.
