I've been reading through the posts regarding the pros and cons of military medicine, and I appreciate the tremendous amount of information that people have contributed, but I haven't found an answer for my situation. I am a 3rd year resident in internal medicine and I'm looking for a position for the next 1-2 years. One of the options I am considering is doing contract work at a base hospital (army or air force), and I'd like to hear about some experiences from civillian attendings (or about them). Specifically, I'd like to know how it compares to community jobs for hospitalists or primary care physicians, and whether or not it is worth it to pursue this path. Thanks!
