Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
currently doing the TX A&M secondary. no character limit = a long secondary. *sigh*

Even without a limit you should just state your piece and end it. Remember someone has to read it and if it's too long they won't finish it, or this skim a couple sentences here and there.

Short and concise would be very welcomed, I'm sure.

I'm going to open a car dealership in your neck of the woods, because I know if I tell you that you were meant for the car you would buy it without even test driving it.

Ok, but really the difference is a choice not a mandate. I think it's ridiculous that a school would mandate these things of their students. What if you feel the time is right and the stars and moon are in harmony, so you and your new "beaux" are ready for the next step then... BAM! The realization that you've signed that decision away to get a medical education hits you. I don't want to sound like a jerk, and I know it's very apparent that I am a proponent of pre-marital sex, but for a MEDICAL SCHOOL to demand that of their students is a bit rediculous. Not to mention draconian laws typically yeild the exact opposite of their desired affect.

There is a difference between absinace by choice and good decision making and a school mandate for abstinance.

I don't think it's right for a school to require it either. I, for one, would never sign just a thing because, you're right, you never know what will happen. But RecyclingBinh is not applying there because it requires that. He is simply ok with not drinking and not having sex. Your previous comment was obviously poking fun at his decision to be ok with that. That's what I have a problem with. Maybe you've never had to deal with it before, but being in such a situation when you have to draw the line is a difficult thing to do. It's not like people who make that decision don't want to have sex. They've just decided not to. The added pressure of society saying that you're lame and unattractive to the opposite sex if you've never had sex makes it that much harder to define your boundaries. So I don't think it's right to make fun of people for that decision.

For the Kill Bill people, it's 'hung' not 'hanged'.. tsk tsk

Sigh... You get so defensive. I put a smiley face after it because it was a joke. I don't care if he doesn't want to have sex. While I do think he's missing out, I could honestly care less.

I respect your choice for abstinence as well, assuming it is a choice and not a lack of options. :meanie: (by the way, before you get angry that meanie face means I was just razzing you 😛)

The point was that it is a whacked policy and thus in my book a whacked school.

I'm hung like a chipmonk. Carradine was hanged. There's a difference.

Hmmm, that's an odd thing to say, Lukkie...

Do you know what the entering class stats are for harvard, ksmi?

HMS website said:
What are the average GPA and MCAT scores of entering students? Is there a minimum that I need to be above?
For the 2005 entering class, the average scores are given below. Please keep in mind that the scores of the students selected for admission included a broad range of scores that includes scores reflective of national averages.

average GPA: 3.76
average MCAT scores were:

Verbal-11.01
Physical Science-12.09
Biological Science-12.03

Although there is no application cutoff in terms of grade point average or MCAT scores, academic excellence is expected.

That good?

guess you didnt need me to tell you the 4 schools🙂. I added them all because I like the jesuit philopshy, and while im not catholic, those schools dont shove relegion down your throat like loma linda so i would have np going there. Why not add st louis? Do you mean out of reach as its too far to move? Or out of reach stats wise? Because if you mean stats thats not true. Georgetown is probably the "hardest" stats wise of the 4 schools to get into so if you apply thre you should do st louis too!

I'm not shaving until I get an interview. Anyone with me? I figure by the time I hear back after secondaries I'll have a beard that any 12 year old would be proud of.

I would be with you, but I have to do patient care. I don't like going in there with a beard or a 5 oclock shadow. It feels really unprofessional. I won't be getting a haircut until interviews though.

All of the residents who come into the ER for consults look like they've been camping for a week. I guess when you're a resident the last thing you want to do with your free time is shave and get a haircut.

I understand your situation, though 🙂. You can still participate with your hair!

Elijah,

how much did you end up paying for app so far?

my total is $269 for 25 schools.

Eesh...I'm paying $750 for 20 schools. I was just over the limit to get FAP, so all of the money I'm making this summer is going to apply to medical school and pay rent.

Southwest for flight, and as for the suit, do they sell a decent looking one at Goodwill?

without FAP i have to pay $600+ for my schools.

TX schools are cheap. 8 schools with no fee reduction costs $145.

what scholarship? how come i don't know of it. plus...how are you going to pay for secondaries with the reduction included?

hey, don't be dissin' thrift stores. most of my clothes are secondhand, and they definitely don't look it. :eyebrow:

i'm not. jsut saying. i wore secondhand clothes before my first few years in america. so i would know.

Now some women hit the mall and some shop at the thrift store. Some of 'em mix and match and make it look like they get more

2ndaries are FREE with fap for all the schools im applying to except the univ. of maryland, they charge 75 bucks so basically 45 secondaries will run me 75 dollars. I can handle that 🙂. The scholarship was through the hospital i volunteer at. They have one to pay for primarys and give some extra money for 2ndaries.

shirt in a can may be my answer😉. I could take out a large loan this summer but im very hesitant to do so...but if nothing works out i may just take out like a 2k student loan or so to pay for travel expenses and my suit.

that sounds like a very nominal amount for secondaries. however, your interview costs (being a CA res) is gonna be huge.🙁

this is why JERSEY >>>>>>>>>

i drove to every school!
