Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well you guys tell me, I just got an email sent to those with "multiple acceptances", the other one I hung onto was their big competitor, UIC. And at the end of the attached letter was this (in bold AND italics):

"We of course hope that you will decide that Loyola is the best "match"
for you, and encourage you to let us know if there is anything we can do to assist you in making your decision."

...so I told them, lol "We need mo monah!"

wow, that's way nicer than the email i got from NYU re: multiple acceptances. no "dear dw2158" or anything. subject line: NYU school of medicine holding multiple acceptances.

and condo maintenance fees in Philly is pretty high.

I like U. City and I like center city. I would live in those areas. There are ppl that commute from Jersey or Mainline (though rare)

I've commuted for way too many years to ever want to do it again 🙁

And yea... condo fees are high. But I don't have to touch anything if something goes wrong... which is awesome . The stupid maintenance fees are the reason apt rental rates are high to begin with :barf:

But as long as it includes everything - I'll take it.

And we really need to stop talking about pancakes and cookies. I'm getting hungry

Hmm I haven't received any of the multiple acceptances being held emails at all! Guess I've got some emails to expect soon?

premeds... relax?!

DOES NOT COMPUTE!

error error

:boom:

Now look what you did. good job Ciello

I've been going through the whole rent/leasing an apt vs. buying a condo and comparing the monthly mortgage fees to rental fees.

Ugh 🙂 Looks like if you can make the down payment, then the condo is a better choice than an apt.... apparently  But man, these realtors are SHARKS

I've heard it's not worth buying unless you are planning on staying for longer than 5 years.

I just might be if I do an MD/MBA

besides... I could always rent it out

yup supposed to be only 2 percent of the population. waaaay overrepresented on sdn

hmmmm... you know what's funny is that my personality, ENFJ, the idealist teacher is also supposed to be 2% of the population...

btw good afternoon to you all!

and on another note, good show on the homestarrunner references last night (strongbad, marzipan, trogdor, etc.). That took me back to high school. homestarrunner is awesome and I loooove Teen Girl Squad! I had to watch a few episodes after you guys put up the youtube videos!

According to that thing, if your rent is super cheap you are almost never better off buying.

yea, unless the market is expected to appreciate significantly

and the only places that could possibly do that is places that are currently cheap & exponentially increasing in population (ie Atlanta/Dallas/Minnesota)

or if the market is rock bottom (Miami-Florida/Michigan/Arizona). However, they might not appreciate quick enough.

I would definitely not buy in most other places, unless I was staying there for 8 years or more and didn't have to take out loans (ie MSTP). From what I know, most MSTP students at Penn do not recommend buying there either, even in their situation.

Of course, if you are getting a huge parental support or have a huge savings from a previous career/job, then the scenario could be different I guess

Yes!! I remember HSR! There was some other really good animated video website too that I remember frequenting in high school... Can you recall its name?

OH my god, HRS was the best. i still make strongbad jokes from time to time. fhqwhgads is a great song.

Yup; the number crunching is starting to hurt my poor head

hmm, well my friends did show me other animated videos online in high school but I can't remember right now. I do think I know what you're talking about though.

I have a hilarious story from high school having to do with HSR/teen girl squad: I was sitting in my economics class, super bored and decided to draw the bottomless pit from teen girl squad in my notes. I also included the quote, "When you fall into a bottomless pit, you die of starvation". My teacher saw that I was doodling so he walked over, picked up my notes, and read the quote to the entire class. Everyone, including the teacher himself, laughed their asses off. I didn't get into trouble because it was sooo funny. The teacher just said you'd probably die of thirst first, which is probably true.

$32,000 scholarship to Mount Sinai. blown away. sweating.

yea dude, i remember you saying how u didnt care about the cost, but it seems like ur gonna have ur cake and eat it too!

yeah, i was expecting to have to take on much more debt if i chose a private school, obviously. i feel so freaking lucky. i'm guessing UMass' total costs will be comparable to Sinai's now, so my decision has been made muuuch easier 😀

Or if you are trying to establish residency and owning property helps. (I think Texas is like that.)

Hope I get a similar response from Loyola... this is what I got back:

"I will present your request to Dean Jones and Donna Sobie, Director of Financial Aid, to see if there is anything that can be done for your situation. You should hear something within the next week or so."

Mo money?
