Class of 2022...how you doin'?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We learned the format of our block exams today and all I can say is yikes. All our exams are taken on a computer. I thought it would be all one test, but instead it’s four separate mini exams. We have one hour to answer 50 questions and a good chunk of that time is going to be wasted downloading and uploading each exam.

They dont let you guys download the exam the night before? Our course coordinator uploads the exam the night before and we're expected to have it downloaded before exam time starts. Then it automatically uploads it when you press the 'done' button.

Were only asked to download before the exam if were using iPads.

When we’re using exam center computers, we can’t download until right before the start of the exam. Technically, the exams will be downloaded before time starts, but the time it takes for the exam to load after typing in the password is still a few minutes. Then it also take a few minutes for it to upload once submitted. We have to do this four times.

Our timer doesn't start until the questions are fully loaded. Maybe same for you?

That’s how it was when we had one exam, but we have all 4 in the one hour so time won’t stop between exams. We work at our own pace through the 4 exams and can start them in any order. The timing concern was addressed during the exam training, but it didn’t sound like they planned to make adjustments.

1. We just started clin path and the prof is a dead ringer for the actress that plays Callie Torres on Gray's Anatomy. It's unnerving.

2. We have the national student symposium this weekend (Canada equivalent to SAVMA) and got our swag bags today. Euthabag is a sponsor, and in our swag bags each of us received a small cat/exotics-sized Euthabag. Love swag and free samples, but we are trying to figure out what we are supposed to do with this one.

That's where you throw away your hopes and dreams after vet school tries to take them away.

3. For the Friday night of symposium, we are having a "Prairie-style" theme dinner followed by a pong tournament. My pong partner and I decided we want to be obnoxious (and one-up our costumes from last year) so I'm rolling up in a foam corncob costume and she's showing up dressed as a scarecrow.

Hoping the students from the other schools don't think we are insane.

I wish we had one giant symposium all together. We have reps from vet schools in the UK but I dont think any Canadian schools [emoji853]

By "prairie style" I thought they just meant the food. This is way better though 😛

From my understanding, it is prairie food so they decided to do a prairie theme for the night as well. Idea being lots of people showing up in plaid (Round Up 2.0 minus the booty shorts???). That being said I was on the education committee not the social committee and I've already been mistaken about several things social arranged haha.

Oh man, now I don't know what to think. They should probably clarify lol. Either way though, I can't wait to see the corn cob 😉

I’m freaking out. I got accepted as a transfer student but I would have to move my entire life by Tuesday.

That's both exciting and extremely stressful!

Just being nosy, where would you transfer to?

Wishing you the best on deciding and moving if you choose to!

Hi I’m also nosy where did you get accepted???

And I say make a pro con list. Either that or flip a coin (seriously). Heads is transfer, tails is stay.
Thank you guys!

I got accepted to K-State! I’ve sent in three apps and the third was more of “why not”. I got an email in December saying they weren’t taking new students but I guess that changed!

I just booked a flight to leave Saturday, but I’m going to financial aid tomorrow to see if I’d be able to get everything switched over and decide from there.

I made a pro/con list a few months ago. The biggest cons are breaking my new lease and leaving my job at a really bad time.

Are you transferring into the 2nd year class? If so you will be with me!! Can't wait to have you!

Congratulations!!!!
Hopefully it all works out with financial aid

Some of the small towns in my province legitimately have people skating to school, work, etc. when the roads are icy lol
reminds me of the time my town flooded and people were riding in their canoes down the street

My second year was one of the worst times of my entire life, let alone vet school. I felt demoralized, I questioned why I entered this career path, I felt like I wasn't good enough to be a veterinarian, I had at least two 3+ month long depressive episodes, and I thought about killing myself all the time. I think it's hard to feel lost and in the thick of it and not even halfway through yet.

Third year has been way better for me. On top of getting a lot of underlying issues addressed, I feel more comfortable with my knowledge base, professors are more chill about their confidence in us, and the material in general is more relevant and less "firehose at a teacup". My classmates (like myself) also gave way less of an eff during third year, and as an overall vibe it's been nicer.

You don't have to like being a vet student, at all. It's so much different than being a vet and can be such a crappy experience in so many ways. Keep your head up

I really hate second year and am wishing I hadn't gone to vet school 🙁
Just feel angry all the time

I can relate. Some how I managed to pass last semester but I’m really not feeling it this semester. At this point when someone asks how’s school I tell them the truth that I hate it. There are definitely parts that I love but for the most part it’s hate. My saving grace so far was going to work in a Clinic over break. It reminded why I’m still trying, I just wish the joy from it would have lasted a little longer.

Working in a clinic over the break definitely gave me that little push to remind me why I'm here. Now I feel like I'm just holding out to make it to working in clinics in the summer and then everything will be better again.

Thankfully we have a lot more hands-on labs this semester and half as many classes, so that makes things significantly more enjoyable.

I feel you <3
This is some **** for real. Vet school is trash. Can we fast forward to the next chapter, please?

Second year is the absolute worst. Keep pushing through, guys. Third year has been way better! Just get through to summer break and coast until you start class again. Doesnt have to be perfect. Doesnt have to be pretty. Just have to get there.

Also, vet school sucks. The dream is to be a vet, not a vet student. Keep on keeping on.

I don’t wanna leave rotations 😢

Feeling the hate for second year too. It's been a really rough couple of weeks were everyone else seems to be super on top of everything we're learning and I'm over here struggling with basics.

Also summer is stressing me way the eff out because everyone has all these cool and awesome jobs or research projects lined up and I'm struggling to find anything.

I did absolutely nothing my last summer. Bummed on my grandparents', parents', and fiance's couches. Played videogames. Hung out in the sun. Absolutely nothing. Best decision I could've made. Dont feel pressured to do something if you dont want to!

Got to love learning about all the different types of anemia is clinical pathology then getting your own bloodwork ran and finding out you have iron deficiency anemia. Time to start popping Iron pills.

psst we should grab lunch soon

I'm also burning out hard this semester, so to therapy we go!

I actually had the opposite experience because the practice I worked at had really bad staff management and I was working my butt off for people who weren't willing to do their share... but I quit that job and I've been shadowing a great place that DOES remind me why I want to do all this, so it has worked out
Yeah, not too fond of it so far. 23 credits is no fun :uhno:
We're in 34.5 and I think I'm gonna die
