Hey all! I'm a 3rd year med stud from Australia. Since my school allows to do one of the final year clerkships overseas now, I was interested in doing it in the States (somewhere on the East Coast). However, I need to find the school/hospital in the States that will accept me. Many schools accept international students for electives, but not so many for clerkships! Anyone knows whether their hospital/school accepts foreign med studs for a clerkship? Or, do you know any overseas students who are doing that? I will contact each school individually, but any advice from you guys will definitely speed things up!

I wrote USMLE I.
I was planning to start this rotation in mid-March, 2009
I'm particularly interested in Endocrinology and Obstetrics.

Thanks for any help!

There is no real difference between an elective and a clerkship.

You cannot generally do 3rd CORE clerkships as an international student - these would be IM, Psych, Surg, Peds and possibly FM.

But you can do 4th year advanced electives, "Sub-Is", etc. in these fields as long as you have completed the core rotation in same.
