Clinical or research job during gap year?

Hi guys, I'm looking for advice on what kind of job to pursue. I have plenty of hours in both clinical and research environments (~1000 in both), so hours are not an issue here. I prefer to take a research job, but I was wondering if schools would look down on me for doing that instead of something clinical. Just looking for some opinions on this, thank you!

If you have plenty of both, do whatever you find most fulfilling/pays you what you are looking for. IMO its not worth trying to strategically plan every part of your life based on what you think some med schools may or may not like because none of us actually know!

If research is what you're more passionate about do that! If you want, you could also find a clinical volunteering gig for a few hours a week so you can accomplish both at the same time.

very true! I'm so sick of doing things just to check boxes for med school

I agree with those who said do what you love since you have already checked the boxes. However, I would encourage you to keep your finger in volunteering clinically, preferably for the disadvantaged. Do a little.

If you're going to argue in a year that this is what you want to do for the rest of your life and that your passionate about it, why stop now? You don't want your previous volunteering and clinical to seem like box checking.
