Clinical volunteering vs. paid clinical work

Both work. I had clinical volunteering that evolved into paid work. My non-clinical volunteering was discussed the most in interviews. I think it is good to show you can work with underserved populations, that you are willing to GT your hands dirty so to speak. If you can commit long term, that is a plus.

Clinical experience is required. It doesn't matter if it is paid or volunteer.
The sum total of your service activities and clinical experiences should provide you with experiences of serving those in needed face-to-face and learning about the work and working environment of physicians.
