Does anyone have any constructive comments on the fact sheet on explaining the CMS payment changes?
this web site the economics seem a bit grim.....

Anyone in private practice care to translate it in English and elaborate on the impact this will have on their practices??

Yes it is grim, because Bush needs more money for Iraq but the first wave of Baby Boomers has established a beachhead on Social Security and Medicare.

If you want to talk about a "surge" consider the millions of new Social Security beneficiaries and Medicare patients that we will need to pay for. We will have trouble enough paying for them w/o paying for the tar-baby war in Iraq. And Bush wants to cut Medicare. He has to be the worst president this country has ever seen.

I doubt Congress will allow Bush to cut Medicare spending. The elderly and the middle-aged are the people who vote and they are an important Republican demographic. The Baby Boomers and AARP will not stand for it. However, to preserve medicare and Social Security they will have to raise taxes, which will not be popular either. If they don't do anything it will all crater.

In anesthesia terms, this is the political equivalent of a 3 year old with a full stomach and an open globe and a pseudocholinesterase deficiency and both parents have malignant hyperthermia.
