There has been a recent rash of ignorance displayed by numerous "I assumed" bright individuals. Please don't clutter our threads with non-sense and more importantly ignorance. Please read the following it will be like....well...Business 101

Money.com/CNN recently reported incomes and lifestyle of "jobs/careers (meaning employees etc...) but they use salary.com as its source----its amazing how bright people can't figure this out. Salary.com and the federal gov. employee salary results are of Salaried EMPLOYEES-----the only salary employed dentists are those working for government owned prisons, health care centers, reservations, etc... They are the lowest paying dentists and they actually avg. $122,000 Not bad for employees. The flip-side is medicine which nearly 95% are EMPLOYEES of hospitals----they receive a salary and are told what to do by the insurance companies and have superiors such as the Hospital CEOs, HR, etc... Therefore their Salaries are very accurate.

Dentists are EMPLOYERS---business owners. 95%+. Much like Chiro and many lawyers. There is no way the gov. or any service to estimate our incomes, only the ADA (for dentists) which collects surveys from the 95%, business owning dentists can give you an idea. Which is ~$178,000 for GPs and nearly double+ for specialists. This is why you don't see the incomes of BUSINESS OWNERS such as McDonalds, gas stations, hair salons, car dealerships, etc... on salary.com or any gov. sites.

Can you tell me what does the ADA tell about the average net income of pediatric dentists? Actually ADA wants money to give this info....so wondering if you or anybody else has bought that.

From the 2004 ADA survey report:

2002 Survey of Dental Practice–Pediatric Dentists in Private Practice (November 2004)
In 2001, pediatric dentists in private practice had an average net income of $294,430 according to a new report published by the Survey Center. “Pediatric Dentists in Private Practice” includes data on pediatric dentists’ net income, gross billings and expenses as well as a host of other practice characteristics. Using data collected during the ADA’s 2002 Survey of Dental Practice, the report also provides data on patient visits, hours worked per week and employment of dental staff. The report is part of a series of reports on individual specialties recently published by the ADA Survey Center

PS, don't go into any specialty for the money. And if you ignore that advice, then certainly don't go into peds for the money.

Good advice, if you think you can stand whiny children alot, work at Chuck E Cheeses for 2 years like I did, and then come back and talk to me.

I don't know, but pedo grads here in the SE are STARTING at $250,000 - $275,000 as associates.

But pedo is one specialty you do NOT want to do for the money.

How much do ped's make out of school/res. ? Does it make a difference at all if you stop at the certificate or go all the way for an MS ?
Thanks ...

The MS should not come into play as far as jobs/salary. The going rate down here in the SE is about 200k out of residency but 250k is not out of the norm down in GA.

It's about time someone came out and said this, those other threads were annoying.

you can do well....but you have to see 20-30 patients a day

you only have to see one full mouth reconstruction

Maybe we should make this topic a "sticky" since, its clearing up alot of question
