Hiya...
just wanted to get some feedback on my course selection for this year and wanted to know if im on the right track...my school's premed advisor is so quiet and he really doesnt say much!!!
so wacha think....im planning a major in bio and a minor in spanish so this is my first semester
bio, chem, history and a lit class
next semester im thinking, bio, chem, calc I, spanish

will that get me off on the right track!!!

toodles!!!

Most definately. History is a lot of fun!

good then i was just worring about my schedule because I know a couple of my friends who are thinking about medicine took calc this semester!!!

It seems like a fairly decent course selection, but perhaps a bit light. Just don't slack off.

You should take at least two semesters of calc. Just finish them by the end of your junior year.

yeah see that was my other concern...i came in with a lot of advanced classes....i'm actually a sophmore with all my classes...but bc i took all of my basic graduation requirements and none of the science classes im stuck until i take the intro classes....my mentor advised against me taking calc I this semester I dont know why...cauz what I wanted was bio, chem, calc I and my history (its a stupid required freshman course) this was if i take the history and english this semester and spanish next, I'm done with all my basic graduation requirements and all I have to do is worry about my major!!!

You might as well take your time in that case. After you finish with the introductory courses you will probably be able to finsh up pretty quickly. You might even be able to graduate in three years.

Hmmm, for freshmen year I have: bio2a (seminar, required, p/np), bio 94, humanities core (worth two classes), and chem 1a... It's strange, my advisor (bio sci) told me to wait until winter before I take my calc class...

I know that some med schools consider a full course load to be five courses per semester. I would be cautious of this when deciding on your scheldule. Taking five courses might be a safer idea. Just take something fun, that you'll know you like and get a great grade in. Good Luck to you... first year is always a blast... just don't let it get away from you... stay on top of things and have a little fun too!!!

destined, im assuming you go to uci?

5 courses a semester? So how about for quarter systems? 4?

I don't anything about the quarter system. Check with your school to see what a "full course load" is considered to be, and go with that. 3 quarter semesters at 3 courses in 9 courses, 2 regular semesters a 5 courses is 10 courses. I would recomend taking 3,3 and 4, just to be safe. But that's me. Again, check with your school to be sure. ANd maybe check into some of the schools your interested in... send them an email!

thanks everybody...i don't know about the course load...i think they only let us take four classes a semester...ill have to look into that on tuesday when I go and talk to the premed advisor....thansk everybody
