woohooooooooo!

is it weird that i can't stop playing Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" on my iTunes? And even more weird, as if it was a sign from above, I went out to a steakhouse last night to celebrate and in the middle of the dinner "New York, New York" started playing in the background.

P&S!!!

HOMIES! I just got my columbia sweatshirt in the mail -- is it a douche move to wear it already?! lol

congrats guys/girls .. P&S !!!

also, does anyone else love how pretentious sounding columbia's name is?
"college of physicians and surgeons..." so hott right now

lol what did u order one?????? that would be hilarious if u did

I did--super shameless hahahahahah

no doubt man im pretty hyped too. hopefully we can see some more of that in these threads and in the future.

ps we are nerds lol

Everyone seemed so excited about P&S on the secondary thread, yet we have very few people in the class of 2013 thread.

I think a lot of people like Columbia but aren't totally sure (including me). Regardless I'm excited to meet everyone at revisit!

well im 100 percent positive i am going to columbia and thrilled. I agree tho we need more action in this thread, i guess just give it time

I'm not 100% sure about anything at this point. However, there is a good chance I will be at P&S next year, hence I am here.

Got in too. I'm actually embarrassed how excited I am. Now, i just gota figure out how to pay for it:
1) Anyone know if we can expect any money from P&S
2) Anyone else researching the AFHPSP?

Congrats everyone!! Definitely come to revisit if you can.

Financial aid at P&S is basically need-based, so the amount of grant-aid you get is going to depend on how much you/your family makes. There are some scholarships you can apply for, but you'd have to ask the fin aid office specifically about those (you may have received info about some of them along with your acceptance letter). I think the financial aid deadline is March 20th, so if you haven't started your applications, definitely get on it-- Need Access is a BEAST!!

haha yes more people!!! I am so excited for this!

HOMIES! I just got my columbia sweatshirt in the mail -- is it a douche move to wear it already?! lol

It is NOT a douche move to wear it! at least I definitely plan on wearing mine once I get it. Do you mind posting which one you got? I am trying to decide. Is it specifically a P&S sweatshirt or just a general Columbia one? I want one that says "College of Physicians and Surgeons" but I don't think they have one on their website. Let us know which one you got!

ok i just caught a hold of the other facebook group and told the creator to close his down and join mine this way we can all avoid confusion and have one group.

so again the link is :http://www.facebook.com/group.php?sid=66fe86e987c4ce7847a4f17a808a2cc3&gid=54438091615

and mightychip u better join!

Ok fine, I am joining!

Btw, are any of you planning on working at Columbia over the summer or are you just going to take it easy and not do anything? I can't see myself spending 2.5 months at home doing nothing, but I'm also not sure about spending it doing research.

lol u kno i was thinking the same thing mighty chip. I need to make some kinda income to pay off some bills and wat not before school, but i would love to do something there over the summer wether it be research or something i dunno.

then again i wanna take it ez before i hit the grind. aka travel, and do all the raunchy things i cant enjoy as much before i start school lol

yeah i know. damn. decisions decisions. kind of have to figure it out soon-- i don't have much time left before i graduate and summer is here.

haha, naw, i meant the P&S specific apparel

Not Cornell, but you got the right league of schools  it starts with a P...

I saw the Columbia Medical gear on the Columbia University Medical Center bookstore site: http://columbia-med.bncollege.com/w...ePage?storeId=44062&catalogId=10001&langId=-1

let us know if you get anything from there!
O. Did you find what you were looking for? It seems that they only have school of nursing sweatshirts. If I purchase a sweatshirt I would prefer to by one that says P&S. Lets call them and tell them that P&S is in demand, so they can design something we are all willing to buy.:D

i know, i can't see why the nursing and public health schools would have sweatshirts and P&S wouldn't. maybe they just don't have them online? someone should call and ask lol. maybe we'll get shirts at revisit?

I think the crest in the middle of this one is the P&S crest. This is probably the closest thing they have currently.
http://columbia-med.bncollege.com/we...0011710&level=

and yeah, i think that sweatshirt does have the crest, but no one is going to read that! I want one that says "Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons". After all, the name is pretty baller! We're not just a plain old "school of medicine"!!!

amazing

Hey, does anyone know if Columbia takes AP credits for english? (the AP credit does show up on my UCLA transcript)

visited P&S today! got a shirt from the medical bookstore (and some other cool stuff). it's cool, even though it says "School of Medicine" instead of "P&S".

I'm pretty sure P&S doesn't like APs (if I decide to go here, I'd have to spend my last summer of freedom taking summer school to make up for my chem AP  )

But they do accept any reading and writing intensive courses even if they're not given by the English department.

Cool. I will save my money for when the time comes.

I'm pretty sure he is 09. DB, great MCAT study post. I like your tidbit about making answers automatic. This is so true.

awesome thanks for the info man db

They sent it all the classes, but it's not available on the website to anyone unless you have a uni/password. I agree that it's a great match list :)

:wow:. Amazing. So much neuro! (No interest in it, but I can't help but notice). Also, does medicine-prelim mean they have something lined up as the next step for sure, or does it mean that they are doing that for now and will try for the match again next year. I'm just confused about why the prelims are sometimes paired up with other things and sometimes aren't.

wow so much neurology and psychiatry... wonder why that is?

Hrm well both NYU and the NYPH system have really, really good psych programs. I'm guessing if you do your core rotation in a strong department, you'd be drawn to the field more. And since it's easier to do aways when you're in the same city, it makes sense there would be a lot of matches between those 3 hospitals.

wow so much neurology and psychiatry... wonder why that is?

Yeah, I think it has to do with the strength of the psychiatry and neurology programs at Columbia. USNews Hospital Rankings place Columbia's at 3 and 5, respectively. Also, if you visit Columbia, you'll see that psych and neuro have a HUGE presence at the medical center. The New York Psychiatric Institute and the Neurological Institute of New York are both based out of Columbia. Their buildings are massive. Also, I think Columbia attracts a lot of neuroscience majors given its reputation in the field (i.e. recent Nobel Prize winners Eric Kandel and Richard Axel).
