I called columbia today to find out when 1)rejections 2) acceptances 3) waitlists are mailed out. As choker said, acceptances are being sent on fridday 15th, waitlists in march and that ALL rejections were sent last moday. I was under the
impression that only pre-interview rejections were sent out last monday but Camilla said that all rejections were sent out. I don't think that ius true. Has anyone post-interview received a rejection?????
:p :p :p :p :p :p

Wait a minute. Do you mean that all rejections were sent yesterday, or do you mean the Monday prior? Either way, I highly, highly doubt it. But we'll see.

Is Columbia done interviewing? I have a friend who applied there and she hasn't interviewed nor has she been rejected.

did you ask specifically if ALL rejections were sent out last monday?

i mean, it IS possible, albeit highly unlikely that they waitlist all interviewed applicants that aren't immediately accepted. if that's the case, do unaccepted people just get no letters at all until march? wow.

hi guys, i got my rejection letter pre-interview and it was dated Feb. 4, which was last monday. hope this helps and good luck to all!

if a post-interviewed rejection posts, we will be set. sorry about rejection, btw.

I highly doubt this to be true.........people will be getting rejections post interview next week.....

choker,
i thought i misheard wrong so i asked camilla specifically " you mean ALL, that is , pre and post interviews were rejected last mon. feb4? " she said yes. but i know that this must be wrong so i will call back again tomorrow. :p :p :p :p :p :p

well that would mean that us SDN-ers all got in then since none of us have posted a post-rejection response on the thread.

columbia is so stupid. alright, so let me get this straight. according to what they've said over a third of applicants are interviewed, on feb. 15, around 160 acceptances will go out to fill the 160 spots and all the other applicants will be put on a waitlist. only, they dont get notified of the waitlist till some time in march. if all rejections already went out and there's only one round of acceptances, then what freaking difference does it make when we get that letter? why dont they give it to us now?

alright, so as people start dropping off the acceptance list, after hearing from penn, yale, harvard, and wherever people prefer to go, one by one, frantz pulls people from the vast waitlist of some 800 applicants through august.

i think the admissions office is full of **** and they're not telling us the truth/they dont know what's going on.

GODDAMNIT WHY DID MY DEAN STOP ME FROM ASKING FRANTZ THIS YESTERDAY WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE!!!

I heard from my friend who goes there that they send all the pre-interview rejections after the last interview and then they send all the acceptance/waitlist/rejection post-interview on the same day (some actually get a phone call if accepted) but he also stressed that basically unless they absolutely don't think you will fit in the class (very few) you will get waitlisted....

I'll take a waitlist. i can fight for it. bring it on...

hello everyone,
sorry about the confusion I caused yesterday. I called back today and got a very plausible response this time. The Committee is meeting today and all day w/Dr frantz to make all final decisions. these decisions will be ailed out on friday in one big batch...that is, acceptance, rejections and waitlists will all be sent out this friday! mind u, very few people actually get ooutright rejected...most get waitlisted!
ok, there it is! im nervous as a buttercake in the springtime!
:p :p :p :p :p :p

Man I'm tired of this crap from Columbia. First they interview way too many applicants - I would much rather get a pre-interview rejection than fly all the way over there for a short, pointless interview only to have a slim shot at an acceptance. Now you're telling me that they waitlist almost everyone post-interview that doesn't get an acceptance? Aaaaaarrgh! I want my goddamn rejection so I can put my manila folder with Columbia stuff into long-term storage (i.e. garbage can). Is it too much to ask for some closure?

I completely agree with you jargon. They should be more stringent in the interview process

Columbia is an enigma wrapped in a riddle wrapped in a conundrum......

Ahhhh the suspense is killing me! Maybe Columbia does interview too many people, but it probably let me just slide in to the interview and get a slim shot at it. I am not complaining one bit. So I will be checking my mail, with the scary thought that since the committee met today the decisions have been made!

My mum said that the reason they said they'd be meeting all day today for final decisions was so that we wouldn't be able to get through and speak to anyone in particular. Would they really vote on 160 people in one day? Gosh - what happens at 3pm when they're tired and don't care - they'll be like "ahh what kind of name is that?? right into the reject pile you go"

they could just as well say they're "unavailable" all day. they dont need to schedule a meeting for that. but now that we've interviewed, look at their overinterviewing this way: 1 in 4ish gets in, right? now since they interview so many, look at how many unqualified applicants you're competing against. i've met so many people that've interviewed at columbia and i must admit that it really would not be a miracle to be in the top 25% of that pool. no offense to anyone that didn't get an interview.

-just another way to look at it.

good luck guys.

I like your perspective *grin*. But i remember a couple of people saying at the interview, that only one in 9 would get in - and with the exception of one dude who couldn't keep still and kept cussing all day long - I thought we were all competitive.

Actually, it looks like from past years they accept 1 out of 4 interviewees. But, with the rumors circulating that they are only taking the 160 for the class and pulling the rest off the waitlist, I would imagine that number will be lower.

the 1 in 10 talk is from 4 years ago when columbia interviewed EVERYONE. it's 1 in 4ish.

Is that 1 in 4 after pulling people off of the waitlist or 1 in 4 from the initial round of decisions?
