don't be a hater... b/md programs are awesome... check my previous posts

BS/BA/MD's are basically so the Undergrad/Med School can take the top 0.1% of the nation and keep them b4 they run off to Harvard Med...

Accelerated versions of BS/BA/MD programs were designed for very dedicated highschool students who were sure that a career in medicine is what they desired. This saves time for them (me included).:luck:

Non-accelerated versions were most likely designed to take the pressure of getting into medical school and taking the MCAT off of students by guarunteeing them a positon if they meet certain requirements. This way they have an opportunity to enjoy more of their college life without some of the stress and become well-rounded individuals. 😳

Yea, if you do a BS/MD program, definitely take one that doesn't lock you in unless it is Northwestern or Brown.

I applied out after the 3rd year of a 8 year program because I wanted to do an MD/PhD at another institution. Its pretty tough because you only have a short track record and the undergrad institutions associated with many BS/MD programs tend to be a little bit weaker than schools that students of this caliber would have otherwise gone to.

I don't regret one second of my decision to attend one though. It dropped my stress to 1/10 of what it could have been (I was more stressed in HS when I was trying to get into Hardvard.) and I had a really good time in College... and on full scholarship. Plus I got into 2 of my dream programs for MD/PhD (UVA and Northwestern)!

I'm not quite sure where the negative connotation of a BS/MD student comes from. Many of our graduates go to the associated medical school and people from our program have been the top of the class there for 2 out of the last 4 years so there is no doubt that we put out good graduates.

I'm graduating VCU's program this year btw. I'd say that its highly underrated and definitely a place you should look at. PM me if you have any questions about us.

I've heard several doctors (some of them very prominent in their fields) speak negatively of students in BS/MD programs. Any reason why? One would think it's all the same, considering you do the 4 years of medical school just like people that did a BS and MD separately.

From the doctor's I have talked to that have said the same thing, it's not a matter of how long they were in med school, it's that they are getting 23,24 year old residents who are not always ready to be in that position.
