i took most of the pre prequisite courses in a community college. univeristy of detroit mercy's website says that they will focus more on my dat score, so my 4.0 gpa worth nothing? i am studing very hard to get 4.0 in every course i take in univeristy of michigan . i am planning to take the dat in december. do you think that i will be competetive if i have good dat score and apply with 3 years/90 credits? university of mercy accepted 12 students with 3 years or less in college.

Yes. No. I don't know? We're just students here, you shouldn't ask these types of questions here because you can only get opinions. Contact the school and ask if taking your pre reqs at a CC will hurt you. Besides that, all you can do is work hard and see what happens when you apply.

I agree, many schools even have applicant advisors and they can tell you exactly what they want to see. Pacific has that type of advisor, she was really nice on the phone.

Some schools are pretty anal about wanting the science pre reqs taken at a 4-yr, some aren't. Usually even the ones that are will accept a good student such as yourself. In my opinion, a friedel craft alkylation is the same at community college as it is at Georgetown University. So don't take any BS about how your courses shouldn't count. If you do well on the DAT you shut up the community college critics.

That being said, dental school is very tough. The first year is a rude awakening to the rigors of studying in professional school. Usually community colleges don't ask as much of you as 4 yr schools. So just make sure you can say you had a full schedule of working or shadowing while at CC.

That's easier said than done around here my friend. But I wish you luck and go rock those DATs 👍 Hopefully this time next year I'll cya at UDM!

I went to school at the U of Utah for a couple semesters, then to BYU for a couple and now I'm at UVSC (Utah Valley State College). I've averaged 3.7ish at all 3 and nobody has given me any trouble at any interviews about it all. Most of the dental schools realize that the DAT is more of an equalizer than GPA simply becuase it's a national test.
