I am going to Santa Monica community college in LA and i wanted to know what are the benefits of taking lots of math courses( Arithmetic - Calculus) and is it really great to go to a community college that has great professors (some that even teach at UCLA) for sciences( bio, chem, etc..) compared to a community college that has "okay" or bad teachers b/c i want to go into med school to become a physician..i ask this b/c i want to go to another community college just for one course, BUT their science professors are not that great (ratemypro.com)

p.s. Is taking a "HUMAN BIOLOGY" course some what good for med school?
thanx to all replies..GOD BLESS 🙂

I go to SMC also.. SMC is one of the top community colleges in the country.. so as long as you transfer to a school with a good pre-med or Bio/equivalent program then you should have no trouble at all getting into med school. What is the course you want to take from another school?

p.s. Human Biology is an excellent course to be taking!!

WRT to the CC's, whatever floats your boat.

WRT to human bio, is it a "majors" class, or "hey look that's an arm"?

HI! thanx for replying well the course that i want to take is Italian because at valley college the teacher was so great, but like i said, to get into the medical feild top grades are needed and great info as well. Unfortunetly i know that SMC will prepARE me more for it.
Do u think i should change my major to italian and still take the "pre-med" courses so i could stand out from others?

hey what is WRT?
and the human bio class is mostly about studying the human body. idk if it is a major class b/c i opened my friends book and what it mostly showed was the human body and explaining certain parts of it

"with regard to"

If you loooooooooooooooove Italian and would study all day just to do more Italian, absolutely yes.

The bio class could help out on the MCAT definitely.

Honestly nobody knows the ranking of community colleges, go where ever you like.

Also if you dont do a science major, you better be on top of your stuff, because your whole Science GPA will be made up of just your pre-reqs.

The truth is that i dont love it, but i do want to study it.SMC does offer italian 1-3, yet thier schedules are sometimes complicated i think
The class would help out? i thought so cuz after that i am going to take the required bio class

Hey "SIR 99" what do u mean if i dont do a scince major? and if i were not a science major, then why would my science GPA being just pre-reqs be bad?

The thing is at some schools, they make the pre-reqs hard and limit it to ~15% A's, and then they make the upper-div classes more manageable because they understand that people in these classes are juniors and seniors and are interested in the subject most of the time, They are not trying to weed anyone out anymore.

So if you were not able to get a 3.6+ science gpa just from these pre-reqs your upper div science classes would also get calculated into your science gpa which would give you an extra little push upward.

If you just have these pre-reqs and you happened to do bad on one of them it will drag you down more because your science gpa will consist of less units then someone who has taken more (upper div) science classes then you.
