I am an undergrad freshman majoring in Psychology. However, I am most likely going to leave the school I am at now and attend community college either for this fall semester and maybe spring and then transfer somewhere else closer to home. I was wondering if that in any way would affect my chances of getting into med school. I don't know whether or not I want to go to grad school and aspire to get my Psy.D or Ph.D, or try for psychiatry.

I would like anyone's advice and/or personal stories. My family has never really expected much from me, and for a long time I never expected anything from myself. After my first year at college (which I did on my own; my father and I had quite a few arguments since he thought I should go to community and I refused), I realized that there is nothing I want to do more than follow my dreams and surpass my own limitations. However, I'm afraid that my past of slacking off in high school is like a ball and chain and having to take a semester at community college is going to ruin my chances.

Anyone's opinion or advice, positive or negative, is welcome.

First of all..Unless there is no way around it, I would advice against a community college especially after already attending a 4-year university.
Second, you should pick a profession to pursue and give everything you have to obtain it. No second guessing yourself. With that said, if you do get into medical school, you may find other areas of medicine that you like better that psychiatry so that leaves a lot of options open.
Third, research the fields that you are looking to go into and see what you needs to get in.
Your only a freshmen so you have awhile to decide.

A year at a community college won't kill your application at many schools, but don't take the prerequisite classes there. Some schools don't like to see CC credits on your transcript.

There are many extracurriculars you could engage in that are pertinent to both fields you're considering, and could help sort out which you're most attracted to. If I were you, I would consider volunteering for (among others) a crisis hotline, becoming a peer substance abuse counselor, shadow group sessions for both pschiastrists and pschologists, volunteering at an inpatient psych unit, needle exchange program, or homeless shelter (lots of mentally ill clients there).
