I read the following in Kaplan's "How to Get Into Medical School":

An additional thing to consider is that many admissions committees do not consider grades earned from community colleges when evaluating your composite GPA. If you have taken all of your science courses at a community college and you apply to a medical school that does not consider community college grades, you could find yourself without a science GPA for the purposes of that particular medical school.

For what percent of medical schools is this statement true?
I plan on taking a vast majority of my science courses at a community college so I can take the MCAT by my junior year. I plan on transferring as a junior to a 4-year institution, and don't want to procrastinate in completing the MCAT.
Any suggestions?

Honestly...on this board....the question has been asked before and there was no general concensus.

There are plenty of people who've taken many credits at a CC and were accepted into med school. (I believe this was the case for Brickhouse and she's at Jefferson - there are other stories as well.)

There are many arguments - that sometimes grading is in fact harder at CC than at a 4-year college, etc.

The key is GPA.

Keep it high.

Do you plan on transferring to a 4-year college after 2 years or have a similar plan?

I know a bunch of people who take that route to knock out prereq classes at a fraction of the cost of university tuition.

Sorry. Just noticed that you answered my question in your OP(I'm sleep deprived).

That sounds like a good plan.

What university do you eventually hope to transfer into?

VA has a lot of good schools(although the cost is not cheap).

Sorry - I probably should've done a forum search before posting.

As far as transferring... perhaps UVA, possibly even out-of-state schools but not sure, because of the $$ factor.

In case anyone else was interested in knowing more about what I asked in the first post, I found this.
