For those of you who have used DAT Achiever and have taken the real DAT, how much of an increase did you see on the PAT in regards to the real thing. I have already taken one shot at the DAT and this definitely is harder. Just curious as to what others are getting for scores on DAT Achiever. I got a 16 on the first test. I just need a 18! Got a 17 first time.

Everyone will have a different opinion but the overall consensus seems to be that DAT Achiever is much harder than the real thing. Most people score 1 or 2 points higher on the real DAT. I did terribly on DAT Achiever (15's) but got much higher on the real DAT. 🙂

The DAT achiever is much harder in all the section except for the cube counting and angle ranking, and maybe hole punching. But it is a great learning tool. Make sure you spent some time going through the test, looking at the missed question and at the ones you go right.

I was getting between 17-19 on the DAT achiever exams and got a 23 on the real test.

Good luck.

What about the DAT Achievers biology section compared to the real thing?
It seems like they go into a lot of detail.

I got 17 and 18s in the DAT achiever, but I got 20 in the American PAT, and 23 in the Canadian PAT.

DAT achiever is definitely a lot harder than the real thing. I barely finish the PAT test in the DAT achiever, but I finished the real thing with 5 to 8 minutes to go.

Definitely harder than the real stuff and expect your score to go up 2 - 5 points from there. But they are mostly good questions with great explanations; and depending on which set of tests you end up getting, you might possibly see some of the questions appearing word for word on the DAT.

I mostly supplement my low mock scores (17, 18, 16) with Campbell's textbook, that jointly boost my understanding on the DAT's bio, where I finally got a 21 for that. You'd probably do even better than that ... 🙂

Thanks everyone for those words of encouragement. How does everyone on here view the QR on DAT Achiever? It seemed rather difficult. I only got a 17. I did not know we need to know how to calculate compound interest, standard dev, etc.

Some of the probability questions on the DATachiever are crazy! I tried to understand or memorize the permutation equation but gave up. On my test there might have been ONE question on statistics about tossing coins and getting two heads in a row, or something like that - way easier then the achiever.

I had a ton of questions on the real DAT (I took it in August 2005) that were extremely similar on the DAT Achiever bio section. I strongly recommend DAT Achiever for bio and the PAT. I found the GC to be much more difficult on the DAT Achiever than on the real DAT. For GC, OC and PAT, I also liked Topscore Pro. All of the practice tests were helpful in terms of the math section, however I ran out of time on the real DAT for this section and since it was the last section to come up, I was exhausted! I found Kaplan's practice tests to be not a great deal of help - the questions were too long and much more difficult than the real thing - however, their study guide was somewhat useful. Good Luck Everyone!! 🙂

How close are Kaplan's PAT Workshops and Exams, to the Real/Actual DAT?

The Hole Punching (usually the easiest), Top-Front-End, & Key Holes are all pretty tough on DAT Acheiver

You need be aware that Kaplan's PAT, like rest of its other stuffs, has been modeled after ADA's released booklets and exams, which are nonetheless representative of the DAT except for the PAT. (ADA has made this section significantly more challenging on its computerized tests now.)

As for DAT Achiever, the owner took the DAT himself and therefore has his reasons to make the sample tests harder than the real things. They are there to prepare you for the worse as not all DATs at the Prometric Testing Centers have been set at equal level of difficulty. That's why candidates scoring the same set of scores may not have the same percentiles assigned, but the dental schools only care for the scores and not which particular DAT you may have taken. Personally, I feel you're more likely to get the PAT nailed and perhaps the SNS, QRT and part of RC too, if you eventually find yourself comfortable with DAT Achiever's questions.

All the best to your DAT then... 🙂

Right, statistics questions on the actual DAT will be easier. But I thought I saw some very similar and tricky word problems from DAT Achiever appearing on my QR test ... something like finding the corral maximum area, movie theater ticket sales, etc.

If you don't mind answering, how did your practice scores on DAT Achiever compare to your real DAT in regards to the QR? I had a similar experience when I took the DAT the first time. Thanks,

17/19/18 (these were my first attempted scores) to a final QR sore of 21 on the real thing. I could have done better had I spared enough energy for this very last section of the DAT.

I would certainly buy the author's main approach of solving the QR problems via the traditional methods. It made me feel good on having known that majority of the problems being answered sharply and correctly.

Pay attention to some of Achiever's explanations on the arithmetic tricks and basic identity secrets. These are usually related to the 5 or 6 questions preventing candidates from shooting beyond 20 on the QRT. 🙂

Thanks. I definitely will. I am hoping to just get a 18 or 19 because I know when I get there I will be drained. I got a 17/20/19 on practice, so hopefully I am where I need to be.
