This could be a moot point if I don't get in, but I've got some questions about WashU. For 2 years, I have been under the impression that WashU takes great care of its students. Obviously an MD from WashU opens lots of doors, but I also felt that the faculty developed good relationships with the students, making it a very open and welcoming environment.
Now, one of my colleagues (who formerly worked for a WashU research professor) says that it's an act. Now, I'm not at all slandering the school. She says that they ARE an excellent school and that they have a reputation for excellence because they make sure that the students receive the highest quality of education. But the warmth and fuzziness that I've gotten in my experiences as an interviewee are a facade.
I put a lot of faith in what this person says b/c she's got a lot of integrity, but I'm wondering if this phenomenon is simply an experience she had with her particular professor, or if its something students experience more if they are involved with research (ie MD/PhD), or if its a widespread phenomenon throughout the entire school.
Anybody got any insightful input on this? Please don't start bashing the school as a "numbers" school. If that's all you have to say, it doesn't really contribute much to my questions. Thanks!
