I realize that med schools look much more closely at your Science/prereq GPA than your overall GPA. It does appear to me, however, that the overall GPA is still important and can help when some other factors are a bit low.
Anyway, I'm very confused about how I go about figuring my overall GPA.

Here's my story.

Attended undergrad at NYU, graduated with a 3.58 (no science classes).

Took a few classes at Nassau Community College after graduating: Bio I, Bio II, Genetics, Human Nutrition (all with labs), precalc, calc I, and statistics. Received A's in all of them, except Calc I where received C+.

I am now currently enrolled in my second semester at Columbia University's Post-Bacc Premed Program. Will be taking all of my prereqs here (including retaking Bio I and II).

So, I know that my science/prereq GPA will be calculated solely from my Post-Bacc work. But what about my overall GPA? Does that include every single college class I've ever taken? Does that not include Post-Bacc work?
My guess is it definitely includes all of my work at NYU and at Columbia. Will my post-graduation classes at the Community College factor into the GPA? (Obviously it would be mostly good for me if they do).

Also, many schools have "recommended" classes in addition to the actual prereqs (usually include stuff like Genetics, Microbiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, etc.) Now I know that med schools would never take an actual prereq course from community college. For those schools that do really like the students to have taken, say, Genetics, will they say, hey, he took it and got an A even if at Community College, or will they totally ignore that?

your GPA will be divided into 12 different values. Frosh, Soph, Junior, Senior BCPM GPA and overall GPA as well as Post-Bacc BCPM GPA and overall GPA plus a total BCPM GPA and total overall GPA.

Does that help?

I'm still confused. I don't have a BCPM GPA from frosh, soph, junior, senior years since I didn't take any of those courses then. And won't my overall post-bacc grade be the same as my BCPM post-bacc grade since I'm only taking those courses?

It sounds to me like you are saying that my overall GPA will simply be my total overall GPA from undergrad combined with my total overall GPA from the Post-Bacc. What about the community college post-graduation, pre-Post Bacc science classes? I know they won't be factored into science GPA, but are you saying they won't be factored into overall GPA?
