4 adjacent p atomic orbitals combine in a conjugated diene, which generates a set of 4 pi molecular orbitals, 2 bonding and 2 antibonding. The 4 pi electrons occupy the two bonding orbitals.

Is it only 4 pi electrons, because in the 2 double-bonds of the conjugated diene, there are only 2 pi electrons per double-bond b/c the other bond in the double-bond is a sigma bond??
