Anyone get the brochure in the mail for the workshop titled "Anyone who is seriously considering medicine..."

It is all about the current healthcare system and whether not potential physicians should actually pursue a career in medicine given the health care environment today. The tone was kind of negative. Is that a hint? I found it odd.

I got it too. I just threw it in the trash.

medicine is in a really weird place right now...every specialty society and professional medical organization has a negative vibe goin' on... tort reform and medicare cuts and liability crises and hipaa.... the problem is that medical students are generally sheltered from this stuff. I encourage you to attend just so you have some sense of what you plan on getting into.

I got it too. I would love to but it costs 875 dollars to attend - 5 day seminar.....

give em a call if you're really interested and see if they have a student rate (most times programs like that do -- in fact, most times it's free, it's just not announced anywhere) what's to lose?

I'm not planning on going, I just found it strange. I work in healthcare already and am familiar with most of the issues they will be discussing. I just found the tone of letter on the outside negative for something they are sending to prospective students.
