I was wondering if cosmetic dentistry is simply a general dentist that focuses more on cosmetic procedures, or if you actually have to receive post-grad training in it?

    Dr. P Duck,

Esthetic/Cosmetic dentistry is simply a special field of GENERAL dentistry that general dentist strives for or decides to practice! NO SPECIALTY or POST-DOCTORAL training. General dentists do attend continuing education to receive certain specific training hours for cosmetic/esthetic dentistry, but it's not a dental specialty or anything (at least not at this time, who knows what will happen down the road)!! There are specific organizations that you may join and be tested to become an accredited member of that specific organization, but it's not a specialty certification at this time.

For example, check out American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) at:

    Hope I helped!
