I was done with my secondaries early September but on most of them i noted that several doctors were to send LOR. (note to all reading this DONT do that) it turns out that my application was not considered complete until these doctors sent in my LOR and getting senior interventional cardiologists to do anything on time is not easy as i found out... the result was that my applications were not considered complete until late september.

Iv applied to 13 schools, 7 of which are top tier schools and 6 of which are either safeties or schools which my grades would be very competitive at. Since my completions iv been invited to only 4 interviews all of which fall in the 6 "safety" schools, (which are quickly losing their designation as such in my eyes -_-) none of which would i consider in my top choices and one already waitlisted me 😡. However on the flip side iv not received any rejections 🙂 as of yet... (lets try not to jinx that)

My question is this, could the fact that my applications were complete relatively late have hurt me this much? by this time should one worry if not invited to an interview or is it still early? did they really put a man on a moon? basically-- am i just bugging out because i check my email way too often or is this the time when applicants should start worrying if not contacted

any input would be greatly appreciated as i may lose my sanity in short order...

Barring awful interview skills, you'll be fine as far as getting in somewhere. Being complete lateish won't make or break an applicant with your numbers (again barring horrible PS, secondary essays, or interview skills).

Stay cool. You'll be in somewhere.

It's still early. It took most of my schools a month to get to my application, and I was complete in mid-late August. If you were considered complete in late September, I could easily see some schools are going to just get to looking at your app in the next couple of weeks.

LizzyM said a while ago that nobody should be panicking until January 21. Don't worry about it.

I wouldn't panic yet, but applying late WILL hurt you at top tier schools. The top schools have literally thousands apply with numbers equal or better than yours. Often it is a crap shoot if you get an interview anyway, and many dates were booked for interviews even before your app was complete.

Will you get into one of your safety schools? ---quite likely
Would I "expect" to be invited to interview elsewhere? ----No, but there is hope.

Thousands of people are complete with their app within the first month. 4 of my interviews were over by the start of September. If you have to re-apply, do so early in the game. It has made a huge difference in the few I've seen re-apply after late apps.

The game isn't over so there is still hope. Still, remember that any medical school can get you wherever you want to go. Safety or not......
