So let's say I told AADSAS that I was going to take Mol Bio.

I then changed my mind, dropped the course, and signed up for something else.

Do I:

A) Wait for November to update using academic update? (even though I don't want them to evaluate my spring + summer grades)?

B) Call them up individually and let them know?

or

C) Just do nothing???

What do I do??? I'm sure a big majority of us will be playing around with our college courses in the next few weeks signing up/changing courses which would then be different from then 'courses planned' page in AADSAS. So now what?

I'm assuming A.

Although it is probably not a huge deal, I would contact each school and let them know of your course change. Then when Academic Update becomes available, you can indicate it on your AADSAS application.

My course work has changed a bit too.

Except for some schools that explicitly want updates, I'm just waiting until November (the AADSAS update) for the majority of the schools I applied to.

You're not alone, it seems like schedules can switch around quite rapidly! 😕

Well for the November Academic Update, I don't wanna update my grades. I just wanna change around the classes I plan to take. Can you update the classes you plan to take, and NOT update spring/summer grade? Can you be selective about what you're upgrading?

No you can't be selective on what you want to update. When you do Academic Update, you'll also have to re-send your transcript and transcript matching form, so your GPA would never be verified.

Okay well I don't want to academically update my GPA; how do I bypass it by JUST updating the courses planned without updating the GPA?? (the reason I'm saying this is because if I'm forced to academically update, my GPA will go down a bit)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the most recent Official Transcript also indicate new courses "In Progress", which would include classes that one is currently registered for but not yet started?

I'm sure dental schools are aware that plans change, but if you are in doubt just contact the school. I would think it reasonable that the schools are interested in planned course work for two reasons:

1) To make sure your planned course work does not interfere with matriculation.
2) To see if you are completing any required prerequisite classes.

I don't think you have that option. When you input your course and the semester you completed it, it is going to ask for a grade. Besides, why would you risk jeopardizing anything? Dental schools will still need a final transcript sent to them before you matriculate, and they will see you did not include a grade when the time was available. But to be clear, there is no way to just change your course and not even put a grade in.

I'm not sure if it the most recent transcript include next semester's courses, but even if it does, the OP is asking if he can only update his courses without including a grade, which he cannot. He would have to mark the course as completed at that point in time (during the Update), so a grade would be required.

Ugh well God damn! I don't wanna update! there is a reason some people do and some people don't! and i don't! but you guys are saying i have to update grades as well as update the spring/summer courses!

Did you not include any of your spring semester grades when you e-submitted your AADSAS?

Just contact your schools of interest and ask them if it's necessary. I would assume for most schools it wouldn't make a big difference either way. 😛

Personally, I'm just waiting until Nov. to update my new grades, and I will notify the schools that explicitly ask for my prospective courses.

No I didn't. I submitted early and grades came out weeks later. It's a good thing I did that because my spring grades weren't that great and it would have lowered my AADSAS GPA.

Try calling AADSAS tomm and see what they have to say. But one way or another, you're eventually going to have to submit your grades to dental schools.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if i didn't enter in a prerequisite needed for school such as biochemistry as a planned course and have not taken it, would I automatically be removed from consideration? Or they should still consider me after i have the chance to change it in November?
thanks!

to above poster, u should email each school that has that requirement to let them know. they will make a note of it on ur record

I am planning to switch my schedule around a little too (swapping one class for another)

I emailed all of the schools I'm applying to saying this:

"Hello, my name is ----- and I am currently applying to -Name of School-. I recently submitted my application along with my transcript and transcript matching form to AADSAS, and I am writing to you because I am planning on modifying my schedule for the Fall 2010 term. I was wondering if I should provide an updated transcript with these changes reflected on the transcript immediately after I make these changes, or if I should wait to send these updates when we are required to send in an application update through AADSAS in November of this year. Please let me know your policies regarding this subject matter-- I look forward to hearing from you soon."

Columbia said: "Hi,
You can send an updated transcript to the admissions office once you modify your fall schedule and we will put in your folder."

Marquette said: "I would prefer you let us know of the schedule modification as quickly as possible."

UPenn said: "Thank you for your interest in our program. Please send the information via email. We do not require an updated transcript and you should submit the changes when academic updates are accepted by AADSAS. Please make sure that your AADSAS academic update should reflect your fall grades when they are available. Good luck with your predental education."

I haven't heard from anyone else yet, but once I make the changes, I'll just send an email to all the schools with the details of my change (and send transcripts out to those that require it)

So definitely contact each school individually.

As for selecting what to enter in on AADSAS, you have to enter everything EXACTLY as it would be seen on your official transcript (so I really don't think you can select what to put on there in terms of grades and spring/summer classes.. you have to put everything up-to-date. And for the update AADSAS requires in November, I think they want you to wait to update until your fall 2010 grades are on your transcript (the reason it starts in nov is bc some schools are on quarter systems.. mine is semester, so i will wait until dec when my fall grades are in to send in my updates/updated transcript to AADSAS... otherwise this update would be pointless to anyone not taking spring or summer classes you know?)

Sometimes ADCOMs are going to wait for the academic update before deciding to give you an interview invite. If you still have summer courses left, be sure to ace them to make up for Spring quarter.

I didn't think this would be a big deal. Probably just going to wait until academic update, since there really isn't a big difference in terms of pre-req vs. non-prereq for me.

Was taking:
Biotech Lab, Advanced Physiology, Endocrinology

Now taking:
Neurobiology, Animal Behavior, Reproductive Biology

Pharmacology, Sensory Physiology and another course on the side.

None of them are pre-reqs, so I don't really think it matters. Well, physiology, but I still have another physiology course and have taken it before.

Just in case, which schools that everyone called explicitly wanted an update?
